This Lingala role sits at the intersection of transcription, translation/localization, and language evaluation—work that directly shapes how multilingual models handle meaning, tone, and context.

The role

You will transcribe Lingala video content, add timestamps, evaluate grammar and tone in both Lingala and English, and explain cultural or contextual meanings for phrases so models learn appropriate translations and responses. OpenTrain AI is hiring contractors for part-time, remote work.

What you'll do (key responsibilities)

• Transcribe Lingala video content accurately, capturing speech and relevant nonverbal cues.
• Add precise timestamps and segment audio/video as required.
• Describe speaker tone, emotional state, and communicative intent.
• Review and evaluate grammar, tone, and structure in Lingala and English.
• Explain nuanced meanings, cultural contexts, and phrase-level intent to guide model behavior.
• Produce consistent, high-quality annotations while meeting weekly availability commitments.

Requirements

You must be native or near-native in Lingala and have strong English reading and writing ability. The role requires careful attention to linguistic detail and the ability to judge tone, emotion, and contextual nuance.

• Native or near-native Lingala proficiency and strong English skills.
• Experience with transcription, translation, localization, or linguistics work.
• Proven attention to detail in language analysis and transcription.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate remotely.
• Availability to commit to the project schedule (see time expectations).

Time commitment & pay

This is part-time contract work with a target of 20+ hours per week; the project description also notes a minimum weekly commitment of at least 15 hours. Confirm your availability before applying.

• Pay model: Hourly (PAY_PER_HOUR).
• Rate: USD $45–$95 per hour (up to $95/hr).

Helpful background

Candidates with formal linguistics, language education, or prior AI/NLP annotation experience will be well positioned, though the role is open to entry-level contributors who meet the language and transcription requirements.

• Familiarity with high-quality transcription and annotation practices is a plus.
• Prior work on NLP or data annotation projects is helpful but not required.
