About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help contributors discover specialized projects, build a professional profile, and grow their experience in a fast-moving industry where human expertise shapes how AI systems work.

About AI Evaluation Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Contributors create examples, review model outputs, and develop evaluation standards that help AI systems reason more accurately and reliably. In this role, your life sciences expertise will help test whether AI can interpret research materials, assess methodology, and preserve scientific nuance.

  • Remote, flexible work that can fit around other professional or personal commitments
  • Direct contribution to the development and evaluation of cutting-edge AI systems
  • An opportunity to turn scientific judgment into structured, objective evaluation criteria

The Role

OpenTrain AI is recruiting a Life Sciences AI Evaluation Task Author to create rigorous benchmark tasks for training and evaluating AI systems. You will transform scientific materials and advanced research challenges into realistic, multi-step evaluations covering methodological reasoning, biological interpretation, and fidelity to source materials.

This role requires deep life sciences judgment rather than prior AI industry experience. Work will be completed asynchronously, with collaboration focused on refining deliverables and maintaining objective evaluation standards.

  • Contractor, part-time opportunity
  • 20+ hours per week
  • Worldwide remote work
  • English-language work
  • $30–$50 USD per hour

What You'll Do

You will develop complex research evaluation tasks that reflect the nuance and ambiguity of real scientific practice rather than simplified textbook exercises. Your work will combine source research, experimental reasoning, data interpretation, and clear documentation.

  • Create multi-step evaluation tasks involving experimental design critique and protocol analysis
  • Interpret primary research data and define the appropriate methodological approach for each task
  • Source and synthesize raw experimental data, laboratory protocols, technical literature, and supplementary research documents
  • Document accurate biological interpretations with strong fidelity to the source materials
  • Build comprehensive, multi-item rubrics covering methodological rigor, data interpretation, and source fidelity
  • Refine deliverables asynchronously with project coordinators
  • Maintain objective and consistent evaluation standards across tasks

Requirements

You should bring strong scientific reasoning and methodological evaluation skills in the life sciences, supported by hands-on research or laboratory experience. The role is listed at an entry level, but applicants must have at least two years of relevant hands-on experience with primary data analysis and scientific protocols.

  • At least two years of hands-on research or laboratory experience involving primary data analysis and scientific protocols
  • A degree or equivalent training in biology, biomedical sciences, biochemistry, or a related life sciences discipline
  • Strong scientific reasoning, source synthesis, and methodological evaluation ability
  • Experience with protocol-driven, multi-source scientific workflows is valuable
  • Strong written English and scientific documentation skills
  • Ability to create objective evaluation rubrics and document biological interpretations
  • Careful attention to detail and commitment to rubric fidelity
  • Familiarity with CSV files, spreadsheets, PDFs, technical literature, and related research formats

Who Should Apply

This opportunity may suit life sciences researchers, laboratory professionals, and scientifically trained writers who can translate expert judgment into clear assessment criteria. Prior AI industry experience is not required; the core requirement is the ability to evaluate research methods, interpret biological evidence, and communicate conclusions precisely.

  • Life sciences professionals with research or laboratory experience
  • Researchers comfortable working with primary data and scientific protocols
  • Scientific writers who can synthesize multiple technical sources
  • Experts interested in helping AI systems handle complex biological reasoning
