The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Computational Biology AI Evaluation Expert to review, annotate, and benchmark AI systems in real-world computational biology use cases. You will evaluate outputs across genomics, transcriptomics, structural biology, and systems biology, documenting clear scientific observations and feedback.

You will also assess scientific workflows and pipelines, identify strengths and gaps, and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What You'll Do

Your work will combine scientific analysis, model evaluation, and clear documentation. Evaluations should be grounded in relevant computational biology context and supported by a clear rationale.

  • Evaluate AI-generated answers and model outputs in computational biology scenarios
  • Annotate and benchmark responses for scientific accuracy, relevance, and usefulness
  • Review biological workflows and pipelines for strengths, weaknesses, and improvement opportunities
  • Provide feedback grounded in genomics, transcriptomics, structural biology, or systems biology
  • Document findings with clear rationale and actionable insights
  • Communicate complex scientific concepts clearly in written and verbal form

Required Qualifications

This role requires PhD-level training in biology, bioinformatics, or a closely related field, or equivalent industry or research experience. Candidates should bring hands-on computational biology expertise and the ability to judge scientific outputs with precision.

  • PhD in Biology, Bioinformatics, or a closely related field, or equivalent industry or research experience
  • Data-driven biological research and computational analysis experience
  • Experience with computational biology workflows, genomics, or transcriptomics analysis
  • Strong scientific reasoning, analytical thinking, problem-solving, and pipeline-review judgment
  • Ability to evaluate AI-generated scientific outputs for accuracy and relevance
  • Python, R, Bash, or related scientific scripting experience
  • Clear written and verbal communication for technical and non-technical audiences

Helpful Background

Familiarity with AI, machine learning, or large language model evaluation in a biology context is useful. Experience with the following tools, workflows, or research activities will also support success in the role.

  • BWA, GATK, STAR, Salmon, Seurat, or Scanpy
  • Next-generation sequencing pipelines
  • CRISPR workflows
  • AlphaFold or PyMOL
  • Published research in computational biology or bioinformatics
  • Open-source contributions in computational biology or bioinformatics
