The Role

OpenTrain is hiring a Legal AI Training Expert to create, review, and improve high-difficulty expert tasks that simulate real legal work for AI model training. You will analyze complex legal issues, apply relevant laws and regulations, and assess AI-generated responses against detailed rubrics.

This is a contract engagement lasting up to 8 weeks. The role requires at least 4 hours per day and up to 40 hours per week, with 4 hours of overlap with PST. The listing specifies a commitment of 20 or more hours per week and is open worldwide.

What You'll Do

You will produce expert-level legal training material and help maintain consistent quality across the team. The work combines legal analysis, text generation, evaluation, calibration, and clear communication of edge cases.

  • Produce high-difficulty expert tasks and gold-standard solutions in the legal domain.
  • Create and refine legal documents, agreements, policies, and related training content.
  • Evaluate AI-generated responses for accuracy, clarity, correctness, and practical usefulness.
  • Apply detailed rubrics when reviewing model outputs.
  • Review and calibrate team members' work while maintaining day-to-day quality standards.
  • Escalate genuine edge cases and rubric ambiguities to the Functional SME Lead.

Requirements

This role is designed for an experienced legal professional with the qualifications and judgment to assess complex legal matters. You should be able to interpret legal authority, identify risks, and translate legal analysis into clear, actionable recommendations.

  • 5 to 15 years of legal practice experience, ideally at Senior Associate, Counsel, or equivalent level.
  • Juris Doctor, active bar admission, or equivalent legal qualification and license applicable to your region.
  • Advanced experience drafting, reviewing, negotiating, and revising commercial contracts, legal agreements, policies, and other legal documents.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to assess complex matters, identify risks, and provide clear, practical advice.
  • Expert knowledge of interpreting laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance.
  • Ability to translate legal requirements into actionable recommendations.
  • Prior AI evaluation, data annotation, content review, quality assurance, or related analytical experience is preferred but not required.
