About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect skilled contributors with projects that help shape how modern AI systems behave, and we support contractors as they build lasting portfolios in this fast-growing field.

OpenTrain is the hiring organization for this role and manages contracting, communications, and payments for contributors.

Why AI Training Matters

AI training (data labeling / annotation) is the human work behind every major AI model: practitioners prepare, curate, and evaluate the real examples models learn from. Contributors do tasks like drafting, reviewing, and annotating text to ensure models understand legal reasoning, correct terminology, and confidentiality considerations.

This work is remote and flexible, an accessible way for legal professionals to apply domain expertise directly to cutting-edge AI systems while keeping control of their time and portfolio.

Role Overview

OpenTrain is hiring a Legal Document AI Training Expert to provide original, professionally authored legal documents that will be used to train and evaluate AI agents. This is a remote, contractor position intended for legal professionals who can produce high-quality documents that demonstrate deep legal analysis and technical detail.

Contracting is part-time with a time commitment of 20+ hours per week. Pay is per hour at $20–$40 USD, depending on experience and the work submitted.

What You'll Do

You will submit original legal documents (PDF or Word) that reflect real-world legal work and are suitable for model training. Submissions should include clear legal analysis and may contain tables, charts, or diagrams when appropriate.

  • Provide professionally structured legal documents (memos, briefs, contracts, policy analyses) in English.
  • Ensure all materials are original and not sourced from the internet or synthetically generated.
  • Produce documents demonstrating issue-spotting, detailed legal reasoning, and technical depth.
  • Contribute a mix of document types and lengths, ideally 10–100 pages per document.
  • Include tables, diagrams, or charts where they improve clarity or reflect real practice.
  • Participate in feedback cycles to clarify content and improve utility for AI training.

Requirements

This role requires hands-on legal drafting experience and a professional background in law or compliance. Clear legal writing and an understanding of confidentiality and privilege are essential.

  • Practicing lawyer, legal researcher, compliance consultant, or equivalent legal professional with drafting experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise producing memos, case briefs, contracts, or policy analyses.
  • Strong ability to articulate complex legal concepts in clear English prose.
  • Experience incorporating tables, diagrams, or charts into legal documents.
  • Keen awareness of confidentiality, privilege, and data privacy obligations when sharing documents.
  • Comfort with written and verbal communications for project correspondence and feedback.

Helpful Background & Who Should Apply

Candidates with experience in compliance, regulatory work, corporate law, intellectual property, or policy analysis are especially well suited, but any legal professional who maintains high standards of original drafting and confidentiality may apply.

You should have existing English-language documents you are permitted to share and be able to certify that submissions are original and not derived from public internet sources.
