The Legal AI Task Pod Lead Role
OpenTrain is recruiting a Legal AI Task Pod Lead to guide a pod of approximately 16 to 20 trainers while contributing directly to expert-level legal AI training work. You will produce difficult legal tasks and gold-standard solutions, review contributor work, and help maintain technically accurate, practical, consistent, and professionally rigorous legal content.
The role combines hands-on legal expertise with pod leadership, coaching, calibration, workflow management, and quality assurance.

What You'll Do
You will set a high standard for the pod's legal work while helping contributors improve through clear expectations, constructive feedback, and consistent evaluation. You will also identify quality patterns and help strengthen the processes used to create, review, and calibrate AI training tasks.
- Create and refine complex legal tasks and gold-standard solutions.
- Review pod outputs for legal accuracy, depth of reasoning, practical applicability, consistency, and alignment with professional standards.
- Establish evaluation criteria and rubrics that support consistent quality across the pod.
- Coach contributors with clear, constructive feedback on legal reasoning and task quality.
- Manage workflows, priorities, delegation, and accountability for individual and pod-level output.
- Identify recurring quality issues, edge cases, and rubric ambiguities.
- Escalate complex matters to the appropriate expert lead.
- Improve task creation, review, calibration, and quality-assurance practices while maintaining sound legal judgment and professional integrity.
Required Qualifications
This opportunity requires substantial legal experience and active professional qualifications. The role is best suited to a senior legal practitioner who can combine sophisticated legal analysis with leadership, coaching, and quality-control responsibilities.
- 10 or more years of legal practice, preferably at Senior Associate, Counsel, or an equivalent level.
- JD or equivalent legal qualification.
- Active US bar admission.
- Strong expertise in contract drafting, legal analysis, and regulatory interpretation.
- Experience reviewing, mentoring, managing, or quality-assuring legal work.
- Ability to create evaluation rubrics and gold-standard solutions.
- Excellent communication, leadership, judgment, emotional intelligence, and interpersonal skills.
