The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Legal AI Task Evaluation Lead to guide Pod Leaders who develop, evaluate, and refine high-difficulty tasks related to legal work. You will combine advanced legal judgment with quality leadership across expert-level task generation and evaluation.

The engagement lasts six weeks, with potential for extension. It is a remote contract role aligned with the PST timezone and requires 20 or more hours per week. Compensation is not disclosed.

What You’ll Do

You will help establish consistent standards for complex legal AI training work while supporting the people responsible for developing and evaluating those tasks. The role requires careful review, clear communication, and sound judgment when determining whether work meets professional expectations.

  • Lead and guide Pod Leaders responsible for legal task development and evaluation
  • Review legal outputs for accuracy, clarity, reasoning quality, and practical applicability
  • Establish consistent quality standards across expert-level legal training tasks
  • Support team development through active listening, transparent communication, and appropriate autonomy
  • Use individual strengths effectively when guiding team performance
  • Apply integrity, accountability, sound judgment, and a forward-looking approach when assessing work
  • Explain why an output meets or falls short of professional legal standards

Requirements

This position is intended for an experienced legal professional with substantial practice experience and an active qualification. You should be comfortable evaluating complex legal reasoning and communicating clear, defensible quality judgments.

  • 12 to 15 years of legal practice at Senior Associate, Counsel, or an equivalent level
  • Active legal qualification and bar admission or regional equivalent
  • Expertise in contract drafting, legal analysis, and regulatory interpretation
  • Experience reviewing, mentoring, managing, or quality-assuring legal work
  • Strong communication, leadership, stakeholder management, judgment, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to assess legal reasoning, clarity, accuracy, and practical applicability
