About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help people start and grow careers teaching AI by centralizing projects, building unified portfolios, and making specialized work easier to track and manage.

We hire contractors directly through OpenTrain AI for roles across the legal, technical, and language domains so contributors can work remotely, build skills, and grow into durable freelance careers in a fast-growing industry.

About AI training work

AI training (also called data labeling or annotation) is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Contributors review and correct model outputs so future systems are more accurate, safer, and more useful.

This role focuses on legal content: your reviews and guidance will directly shape how models understand legal reasoning, citations, contract language, and jurisdictional constraints.

The role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Legal Quality Assurance Lead to oversee quality and consistency across legal AI training projects. You will review AI-generated legal explanations, research responses, contract analyses, policy interpretations, case summaries, and compliance guidance, then provide precise feedback to help contributors meet project standards.

This is a contractor, part-time role expected to run 20+ hours per week and is open to US-based contributors only. You will support QA processes, documentation, onboarding, and trainer communication for remote legal-review teams.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours/week
  • Location: United States (remote)
  • Data type: Text; Label type: Evaluation/Rating

What you'll do

You will be hands-on with evaluation, documentation, and team coordination to ensure legal outputs meet project rubrics and safety standards.

  • Review AI outputs and trainer QA work for accuracy, clarity, appropriate caution, and adherence to rubrics.
  • Identify recurring quality issues and escalate critical or safety-related problems.
  • Flag outputs that are unsafe, misleading, overconfident, or jurisdictionally inappropriate.
  • Maintain and update style guides, trackers, FAQs, honeypots, and example sets.
  • Support onboarding calls, training workflows, and ongoing quality alignment for remote teams.
  • Communicate project updates, guidelines, and expectations to trainers and QAs.
  • Help improve scalable QA processes for legal AI training projects.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the core skills and experience needed to evaluate legal content and lead QA activities.

  • Strong legal background in legal practice, legal research, contract review, compliance, or related work.
  • Strong English communication skills for written feedback and team coordination.
  • Ability to evaluate legal content against detailed rubrics and spot reasoning, citation, and jurisdiction issues.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable maintaining operational documentation.
  • Experience leading or supporting remote teams is strongly preferred.

Helpful background and tools

The following qualifications and tool familiarity are helpful but not strictly required; they will make onboarding and operations smoother.

  • JD, LLB, LLM, or equivalent degree in law or a closely related field.
  • Experience with AI training, data annotation, prompt/response evaluation, or legal content QA is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Discord, Google Sheets, Google Docs, trackers, dashboards, and common project-management tools.

Pay, how it works, and next steps
