About OpenTrain

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this remote, project-based opportunity. OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling, helping people apply their professional expertise to the development of advanced AI systems.

  • Remote contractor engagement
  • Project duration expected to be 1 to 3 months
  • Compensation of $90 to $140 per hour
  • Expected commitment of less than 20 hours per week

About AI Training and Legal Model Evaluation

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Specialists review, compare, and improve model outputs so AI systems can learn from accurate, well-reasoned examples and perform more reliably.

In this role, your legal knowledge and professional judgment will help assess how advanced models understand written arguments, follow instructions, and communicate legal content. Prior AI experience is not required.

  • Contribute to next-generation AI development
  • Apply legal expertise rather than train as a programmer
  • Work remotely using digital review and project tools
  • Help improve model clarity, reasoning, precision, and instruction compliance

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking experienced Lawyers and Legal Writers for an evaluation and analysis engagement focused on legal LLM analysis and drafting. You will review written responses to legal and technical prompts and provide precise assessments supported by clear, detailed rationales.

This is an evaluative engagement involving analysis of written legal content. It does not involve providing legal advice or representation, and it does not create an attorney-client relationship.

  • Job type: Contractor and project-based part-time work
  • Work location: Remote
  • Subject matter: Legal LLM analysis and drafting
  • Data type: Text
  • Work formats: Evaluation, rating, and human feedback

What You'll Do

  • Evaluate and compare multiple AI-generated responses to legal and technical prompts.
  • Assess clarity, tone, precision, and strict compliance with instructions.
  • Assign precise quality scores and write detailed, well-reasoned rationales.
  • Identify authoritative-sounding responses that contain overstatements, unsupported legal claims, or insufficient precision.
  • Check digital content for inconsistencies, ambiguities, logical flaws, and factual inaccuracies.
  • Document findings and qualitative insights carefully in online review platforms and project tools.
  • Collaborate asynchronously with project managers and lead reviewers to maintain evaluation standards and consistency.
  • Manage deliverables, schedules, and deadlines independently according to project requirements.

Required Qualifications

This opportunity is intended for expert-level legal professionals with strong written communication and analytical skills. Your ability to evaluate written argument, recognize legal inaccuracies, and explain your judgment is central to the work.

  • Qualifying law degree such as a J.D., LL.B., or equivalent from an accredited university in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand
  • Demonstrated experience drafting briefs, motions, memoranda, legal opinions, contracts, or regulatory submissions
  • Professional experience reviewing, editing, or supervising legal writing by junior lawyers, trainees, or paralegals
  • Strong legal writing, legal drafting, document review, technical writing, and content editing skills
  • Ability to assess whether content is appropriately tailored for legal, regulatory, client, or public audiences
  • Exceptional attention to detail, critical analysis, and written communication
  • Native or bilingual English proficiency, or fully equivalent written fluency
  • Based in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, Ireland, or Greenland

Preferred Experience and Working Style

Experience with digital document review platforms or annotation tools is desirable. Familiarity with model evaluation, AI training, or Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback is helpful but not required.

  • Legal LLM analysis and drafting subject matter expertise
  • Comfort working in English
  • Independent and reliable virtual collaboration
  • Careful, structured evaluation of complex written content
  • Ability to meet project schedules while working asynchronously

How the Engagement Works

You will work remotely on a flexible, part-time schedule with an expected commitment of under 20 hours per week. The engagement is expected to last 1 to 3 months, with deliverables and deadlines managed according to project requirements.
