About this role
OpenTrain is recruiting for a LaTeX academic document task executor to complete hands-on typesetting, citation, mathematical formatting, and research-document workflows that support AI training and automated evaluation. You will work with Overleaf, LaTeX, pdfLaTeX, BibTeX, TeXstudio, and Zotero while producing reliable document outputs and human reference demonstrations. The role combines academic publishing practices with detailed execution tracing, edge-case discovery, and testing of automated compilation verifiers.

What you will do
You will execute multi-step academic document typesetting, citation-resolution, and mathematical-equation formatting tasks. You will record clean human execution trajectories covering keystrokes, syntax edits, bibliography matching, and compilation runs. You will investigate broken package dependencies, ambiguous citation keys, malformed BibTeX entries, and compilation issues. You will also test alternative valid LaTeX packages and formatting methods to confirm that automated graders accept valid outputs, while validating task solvability and identifying edge cases.

Required skills
Candidates should have practical hands-on experience with LaTeX and Overleaf for scientific or academic document preparation, along with strong knowledge of LaTeX syntax, package debugging, and compilation error resolution. Careful judgment around mathematical formatting, citation accuracy, typography, and publication quality is important. Clear written English is required for bug reports and execution feedback.

Helpful background
Experience with Zotero or BibTeX reference managers is helpful, as is a background in academic copyediting, proofreading, or technical publication quality assurance.
