About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the centralized platform where people start and grow careers in AI training and data labeling. We help contributors find projects, build a lasting portfolio, and take part in the human work that teaches AI systems how to behave.

OpenTrain AI is the hiring organization for this role—work with us directly to contribute to real AI training projects while developing game-development skills and a freelance career in a fast-growing industry.

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building intelligent systems: people create, evaluate, and label examples that modern models learn from. This role focuses on game development content that helps models understand gameplay, mechanics, and player interactions.

These projects are typically remote and flexible, making them a great way to apply domain skills part-time while contributing to cutting-edge AI workflows.

The Role

As a Junior Solar2D Game Developer you will develop and review 2D game content in Solar2D for use in AI training. Your work will combine hands-on game development, careful testing, and clear documentation to produce usable training examples and annotations.

You will collaborate with a distributed team to capture authentic gameplay scenarios, identify edge cases, and ensure consistency and accuracy in the content that feeds AI datasets.

What You Will Do

  • Develop and review 2D game content and prototypes using Solar2D.
  • Provide detailed feedback on game mechanics, level design, and user interactions.
  • Evaluate gameplay elements and identify examples suitable for AI training.
  • Document insights, bug reports, and edge cases discovered during development and testing.
  • Assist with the collection and annotation of gameplay data for model training.
  • Coordinate remotely with a distributed team to meet project goals and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Foundational experience with Solar2D game development.
  • Proficiency in Lua scripting or a similar language used in Solar2D.
  • Understanding of core game design principles and gameplay mechanics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail in testing and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, contract role.
  • Prior exposure to AI, machine learning, or data annotation is preferred but not required.
  • English language proficiency; role is open worldwide.

Compensation & Schedule

This is a part-time contractor role with a typical time commitment of 20+ hours per week.

Pay is hourly with a range up to $110/hr (hourly range $20–$110/hr per project). Exact compensation will depend on assignment and experience.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time.
  • Labeling work includes data collection and classification of gameplay content.

How It Works & Who Should Apply

This role is a great fit for early-career game developers, QA testers, or hobbyist creators who know Solar2D and Lua and want to apply those skills to real AI training work. If you enjoy analyzing mechanics, documenting edge cases, and producing polished examples, apply.

To apply, create or use your OpenTrain account, complete your profile, and submit your application. OpenTrain is where you’ll manage your assignments, track your work, and build a portfolio of AI training contributions.
