About AI training and why game development matters

AI training is the human side of building intelligent systems: people prepare examples, evaluate outputs, and create content that helps models learn. Games and interactive simulations are often used to generate structured data, evaluate behaviors, and produce assets for model training.

This role focuses on 2D game development with Cocos2d-x to support AI training and data-generation pipelines—your work helps produce reliable, repeatable gameplay scenarios and labeled outputs that feed downstream ML workflows.

The role — what this job is

We are recruiting a hands-on Cocos2d-x game developer to implement and refine gameplay logic, mechanics, assets, and scenes used in AI training and data-generation projects. Expect iterative delivery, clear documentation, and frequent collaboration with distributed teammates.

This is a contract, part-time position (20+ hours/week) open worldwide. Work language: English. Compensation is hourly (pay range $50–$120 USD/hr, up to $120/hr depending on experience).

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week
  • Work location: Remote / Worldwide (English required)
  • Pay: Hourly, $50–$120 USD/hr (up to $120/hr)

What you'll do day to day

Your core responsibility is to build, test, and polish 2D gameplay systems in Cocos2d-x that are used for AI training or data collection. You'll work with engineers, designers, and ML specialists to deliver repeatable prototypes and production-level scenes.

  • Develop game logic, mechanics, and features using Cocos2d-x.
  • Create, modify, and troubleshoot game assets and scenes.
  • Test, debug, and optimize code for efficient gameplay.
  • Document code and processes clearly for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Work iteratively and incorporate feedback from distributed teammates.

Required skills and qualifications

We are looking for candidates with practical, hands-on experience building projects with Cocos2d-x and a solid grasp of 2D game development workflows. Clear communication and the ability to follow technical specifications are essential.

  • Strong knowledge of Cocos2d-x and 2D game development workflows.
  • Practical experience building projects with Cocos2d-x (portfolio or repo links requested).
  • Hands-on troubleshooting, debugging, and optimization in a game development context.
  • Clear written and verbal communication for status updates and documentation.
  • Ability to follow technical specifications and adapt to changing requirements.

Helpful background (nice to have)

These additional skills can help you contribute faster and take on more complex tasks, but they are not required for entry-level contributors.

  • Experience with AI training, data generation, or tools used for dataset creation.
  • Familiarity with other game engines, languages, or tooling that accelerate prototyping.
  • Prior collaboration with ML or AI specialists on technical projects.

How to apply and next steps

To apply, create a free OpenTrain account and submit your profile. Include links to Cocos2d-x projects, code samples, or a short portfolio demonstrating your 2D game work.

Successful applicants will be asked to share examples of past work and may complete a short technical task or walkthrough to demonstrate practical Cocos2d-x skills.

  • Submit your OpenTrain profile with project links or repositories.
  • Be prepared for a short technical exercise or code walkthrough.
