The role
OpenTrain is hiring a Junior FreeCAD 3D Modeling Designer to create and refine 3D models used in AI training workflows. You will work from detailed briefs and technical specs, iterate on designs from feedback, document your methods, and keep model files organized with version control.
This is a contractor, part-time role requiring 20+ hours/week. Compensation is hourly with a rate range of $20–$110/hr (paid in USD). The project language is English and the position is open worldwide.

What you'll do day to day
Your primary responsibility is producing reliable, geometry-accurate 3D models in FreeCAD that meet technical briefs and are suitable for AI training and evaluation tasks. You will regularly review and revise models based on feedback and document your workflows so others can replicate or extend them.
You will also keep project files organized and use version control practices so models and iterations remain traceable and reproducible.
Create and refine 3D models in FreeCAD from technical briefs.
Interpret design specifications and deliver geometrically accurate parts and assemblies.
Revise models based on review notes and improve usability for AI purposes.
Document modeling workflows, assumptions, and version history.
Maintain organized files and version control for all modeling work.
Communicate clearly about requirements, constraints, and expected outcomes.
Requirements
The role is entry level but requires hands-on proficiency with FreeCAD and a careful, detail-oriented approach to geometry. Clear written and verbal communication is required to collaborate remotely and document work.
You must be able to follow technical instructions, adapt to changing project needs, and demonstrate an understanding of basic engineering or design principles.
Proficiency in FreeCAD for 3D modeling and design tasks.
Ability to interpret technical specifications and design briefs accurately.
