About AI training and why this work matters

AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building artificial intelligence: people prepare, review, and score examples that teach models how to generate and understand content. This role puts you on the front lines of generative music development, using your musical judgment to shape how models compose, sing, and mix.

The role

We’re hiring a Japanese Music AI Model Evaluator to evaluate AI-generated music outputs, score training audio, and annotate musical characteristics using a structured taxonomy. This is a contract, part-time role of 20+ hours/week paid per hour.

You will work with audio data (evaluation and classification tasks) in a bilingual workflow: directions are in English and content/annotations are in Japanese. Pay range: $34.72–$62.49/hr (typical top rate $62.49/hr).

What you'll do day-to-day

You will listen to AI-generated music and training audio, compare samples, and apply structured scores and tags for multiple quality dimensions. Tasks require close attention to musical detail, vocal performance, and production quality.

Work is delivered through OpenTrain’s task platform and uses a provided taxonomy and annotation guidelines. You must follow instructions precisely and maintain consistent, high-quality judgments across tasks.

• Evaluate AI-generated lyrics, vocal synthesis, and overall musical output quality
• Compare music samples head-to-head for musicality, creativity, prompt adherence, vocal quality, and mix/production
• Score the quality of musical training data for inclusion or improvement
• Annotate songs with genre, sub-genre, song structure, and vocal/instrumental characteristics
• Apply audio-engineering judgment (mix balance, clarity, artifacts) in a bilingual workflow

Requirements

Candidates must already have the core skills and experience to apply musical and audio-engineering judgment reliably. We will not invent on your behalf—please only apply if you meet the listed requirements.

• Experience as a music producer, audio engineer, or sound mixer
• Ability to write music in Japanese and evaluate lyrics
• Native or near-native proficiency in Japanese and strong comprehension of English directions
• Familiarity with musical performance, theory, songwriting, and structure
• Proven ability to evaluate vocal performance and mix quality

Helpful background (preferred)

These are not strict requirements but will make you competitive for selection and higher rates.

• College degree in music or a related field
• 3+ years of professional music production, engineering, or mixing experience
• Previous experience annotating audio or evaluating creative outputs is a plus
