The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Japanese-speaking multimodal image evaluation annotator to create realistic evaluation materials for AI systems. You will work with authentic photographs of places, products, and media, obscuring key identifying details while preserving meaningful visual clues.

The work combines image sourcing, copyright and provenance verification, investigative web research, prompt writing, rubric development, and solution documentation. Your contributions will help test whether multimodal AI agents can identify and reason about subjects from incomplete visual information.

What You'll Do

You will source and prepare high-quality photographs, research their subjects, and create evaluation materials that are realistic, well-documented, and legally usable. The role requires careful judgment when working from partial visual clues and when deciding how much identifying information to obscure.

• Source photographs relevant to Japanese locations, including landmarks, universities, and municipal buildings
• Find images of Japanese products and domestic film or media
• Confirm whether images are original, public domain, copyright-free, or explicitly licensed
• Record image provenance and license type
• Use Google Search, Google Lens, reverse image search, and reliable supporting sources
• Identify subjects from partial visual information through iterative research
• Create cropped, occluded, masked, or degraded image versions
• Preserve realistic secondary visual clues without introducing unrealistic ones
• Write time-bound English prompts and concise, one-sentence grading criteria
• Document the ground-truth identity, research process, evidence, and expected outcome

Requirements

This role requires native or highly fluent Japanese communication and strong working proficiency in English for prompts and evaluation documentation. You should be comfortable researching culturally significant but non-touristy Japanese subjects and verifying conclusions from incomplete visual evidence.

You must understand image licensing, copyright, provenance, and public-domain, Creative Commons, or other licensed sources. Basic ability to crop, mask, or annotate images is also required, along with careful and objective writing for prompts, rubrics, and research notes.

• Strong working English for prompts and evaluation documentation
• Familiarity with Japanese landmarks, universities, municipal buildings, products, and domestic film or media
• Ability to conduct iterative Google Search, Google Lens, and reverse-image research
• Understanding of copyright-free, public-domain, Creative Commons, and licensed image provenance

Helpful Background

A bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in any field is suitable. Previous experience in AI evaluation, data annotation, content review, quality assurance, or another analytical role can be helpful, but it is not required.
