The Role

We are seeking a skilled Japanese creative writer to generate and refine chatbot dialogue and written responses used to train large language models. This is a remote contract, part-time role focused on producing authentic, culturally appropriate, and engaging Japanese text.

Work will include creating original prompt responses, editing AI outputs for clarity and tone, and tailoring language to regional and dialectal nuance so the chatbot feels natural to a Japanese-speaking audience.

• Pay: $20 USD per hour (PAY_PER_HOUR)
• Minimum weekly commitment: 10 hours; preferred commitment: 20+ hours/week
• Work style: Fully remote and asynchronous

What You’ll Do

Produce high-quality Japanese text across prompts and scenarios, ensuring variety of tone, style, and register. Edit and improve AI-generated drafts to meet quality, style, and cultural expectations.

• Write natural, context-aware replies to prompts for chatbot training (prompt–response writing, SFT datasets).
• Refine and summarize AI-generated text to improve clarity, tone, and factual coherence.
• Adapt language for different Japanese dialects and regional nuances when requested.
• Follow project guidelines and provide clear justifications for edits when asked.

Requirements

We will consider candidates with varying backgrounds, but the role requires strong written Japanese and proven creative writing ability. Prior experience on data-labeling or AI-training projects is highly preferred.

• Japanese: Native or near-native written fluency with strong grammar and style control.
• Experience: Preferably 5+ years of creative or content writing in Japanese; substantial writing experience will increase qualification score.
• Platform experience: Prior writing tasks on data-labeling/AI-training platforms (including OpenTrain) is strongly preferred.
• Portfolio: Links or descriptions of published Japanese writing preferred; portfolio review is part of qualification.
• English: Basic understanding of English to read instructions and communicate with the team.
• Tools: Familiarity with AI chat tools (e.g., ChatGPT) is an advantage but not required.
• Education: Please be ready to state your highest level of education during interview.

Interview & Qualification Test

The interview will ask about your years/months of relevant experience, previous writing tasks on data-labeling platforms, portfolio links or samples, and your highest education level. Answers inform a qualification score.

A mandatory short written test in Japanese will be administered during the interview. Applicants must answer in Japanese; test responses strongly impact the qualification score.

• Test task 1 — Describe a character: 創造的な言葉を使用して、ユニークで生き生きとしたキャラクターを簡潔に説明してください。説明には少なくとも二つの特徴が含まれる必要があります。
• Test task 2 — Draft a professional email: 作成した「四半期財務報告書」に対するフィードバックを求める短いメールを上司に送ってください。データ分析とプレゼンテーションスタイルに焦点を当ててください。
• Test task 3 — Write a persuasive email: 内向的な友人を説得して、地域イベントでのゲストスピーカーとしてボランティアを務めるように促す簡潔なメールを作成してください。参加の利点を二つ挙げ、彼らが持つ可能性のある懸念事項を一つ取り上げてください.
