About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help contributors find projects, build a unified portfolio of AI-training work, and grow into durable freelance careers in a rapidly expanding industry.

Working with OpenTrain means joining a community that directly shapes how modern AI behaves. Many roles are 100% remote, flexible, and accessible to people without prior industry experience who bring language fluency, attention to detail, or domain knowledge.

About AI training work

AI training (data labeling / annotation / human feedback) is the human side of building artificial intelligence. People prepare examples, evaluate outputs, and write feedback so models learn accurate, useful behavior.

This role focuses on language modeling tasks—breaking down content, writing summaries, validating claims, and creating answer keys and scenarios that help LLMs improve on reasoning and analytical tasks.

The role

You will analyze Japanese-language content and convert that analysis into structured training artifacts for large language models. Work is fully remote and designed for independent contributors who can follow model-training workflows and collaborate clearly with reviewers.

Label types include RLHF, evaluation ratings, text summarization, and question answering. Employment is contract, part-time; the role expects at least 20+ hours/week with some overlap to US hours and applicants should be prepared for periods requiring higher weekly effort.

  • Position type: Contractor, Part-time
  • Minimum weekly commitment: 20+ hours/week (ability to work up to 40 hours/week is advantageous)
  • Languages required: Japanese (ja) and English (en)
  • Work style: Remote, independent, collaborative with model-training workflows

What you'll do

Your daily work centers on reading, decomposing, and validating Japanese content and turning that analysis into clear training inputs for models.

  • Read Japanese content and identify key logic, claims, and structure.
  • Summarize and decompose long material into smaller analytical blocks for model consumption.
  • Research and validate claims online, documenting sources and correctness.
  • Answer analytical questions and create scenarios and model answers for training.
  • Provide clear explanations and constructive annotations so models can learn from feedback.

Requirements

Candidates must be comfortable working independently, communicating professionally, and using common office tools. You must be detail-oriented and able to produce clear, verifiable training artifacts.

  • Strong reading comprehension in Japanese and English.
  • Ability to summarize long-form content into logical blocks and annotations.
  • Online research skills to validate factual claims and document sources.
  • Analytical reasoning and creative lateral thinking for puzzle-style tasks.
  • Comfort with Excel and Google Workspace.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to meet at least 20+ hours/week; description notes a preference for contributors able to work up to 40 hours/week.
  • Professional communication and collaboration skills.

Helpful background

You don't need a specific degree to apply, but experience in analytical or language-focused roles helps you hit the ground running.

  • Experience as a business analyst, research analyst, copywriter, journalist, technical writer, editor, or translator.
  • Backgrounds in engineering, literature, journalism, communications, arts, statistics, or related fields are relevant.
  • Strong data interpretation, logical reasoning, and basic arithmetic skills are useful.

How it works / Next steps

If this role fits your skills, prepare examples that demonstrate Japanese-to-English comprehension, long-form summarization, and analytical reasoning. During onboarding you'll learn the specific labeling interfaces and the quality guidelines used to produce model-ready artifacts.

OpenTrain will provide project instructions and quality criteria; compensation and scheduling details are shared during application and onboarding. This contract role is ideal for contributors seeking flexible, remote work that directly impacts how LLMs understand and reason about Japanese content.

  • Labeling tasks include RLHF, evaluation ratings, text summarization, and question answering.
  • Onboarding includes training on workflows, quality standards, and annotation tools.
  • Apply with examples of prior work or short samples showing analytical summaries and claim validation.
