About AI Training and Audio Annotation

AI training is the human work behind artificial intelligence. Contributors prepare, review, and evaluate examples that help AI systems understand speech, language, conversations, and other real-world data.

In this role, your quality checks will support multilingual, multi-speaker AI systems by ensuring that recordings and their annotations are technically sound, accurately transcribed, and consistently labeled.

  • Work remotely with a computer and internet connection
  • Contribute to cutting-edge AI development through careful human review
  • Build experience in audio annotation, transcription quality, and conversational data evaluation

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Japanese Audio Annotation QA Specialist to review multi-channel recordings and human-verified annotations. You will act as the final quality checkpoint for audio fidelity, transcription, diarization, metadata, and conversational annotations.

This is a fully remote contractor assignment lasting 15 weeks. The role is listed as part-time with a 20+ hour weekly time requirement, while the assignment description expects at least 40 hours per week, including at least four hours per day and four hours of overlap with Pacific Time. Compensation is not stated.

  • Engagement: Contractor and part-time
  • Duration: 15 weeks
  • Location: Worldwide and fully remote
  • Schedule: At least 40 hours per week in the assignment description
  • Overlap: At least four hours with Pacific Time
  • Language: Native Japanese required
  • Compensation: Not stated

What You’ll Do

You will assess both the technical quality of recordings and the accuracy of their supporting annotations. When work does not meet the required standard, you will assign a clear quality outcome and provide actionable feedback for correction.

  • Evaluate multi-channel audio for channel isolation, background noise, channel bleed, clipping, gain, and other fidelity issues
  • Review unnormalized verbatim transcriptions for accuracy
  • Check speaker identification and diarization across complex conversations
  • Verify turn-level and word-level timestamps
  • Assess overlapping dialogue in multi-speaker recordings
  • Validate JSON-formatted metadata and metadata logic
  • Review demographic markers, contextual domains, and conversational tags
  • Identify personally identifying, toxic, or otherwise sensitive content
  • Assign quality outcomes and explain required annotation corrections

Requirements

Native Japanese proficiency and the ability to accurately understand natural conversational speech are required. You should have an exceptional ear for audio quality, strong attention to detail, and sound judgment when evaluating complex multi-speaker conversations.

The role also requires comfort reviewing structured JSON data and metadata logic. Experience with the annotation tasks below is important for assessing whether sessions are accurate, complete, and suitable for AI training.

  • Experience reviewing unnormalized verbatim transcription
  • Experience reviewing speaker identification and overlapping dialogue
  • Experience checking turn-level and word-level timestamps
  • Comfort validating JSON-formatted metadata, demographic markers, contextual domains, and conversational tags
  • Sound judgment when assessing annotation quality and privacy or safety concerns
  • Ability to provide clear, actionable feedback
