The Role

OpenTrain is seeking an Italian Audio Transcriptionist to create high-quality transcriptions of spoken Italian audio for AI speech and language model training. You will work with natural conversations, interviews, and meetings while following detailed style and formatting guidelines.

This is a fully remote, part-time contract role for candidates in Italy. The role is listed as entry level and requires a commitment of 20 or more hours per week.

What You'll Do

You will turn spoken Italian audio into accurate, consistent transcripts. The work requires careful listening and the ability to represent natural speech faithfully, including difficult audio and conversations involving multiple speakers.

• Listen to Italian audio recordings and produce verbatim transcriptions.
• Capture crosstalk, overlapping speakers, filled pauses, false starts, and other natural speech phenomena.
• Identify and distinguish multiple speakers throughout recordings.
• Handle background noise, varying accents, and other challenging audio conditions.
• Apply timestamps, speaker labels, and annotation tags consistently.
• Follow transcription style guides and detailed formatting instructions.

Requirements

You should be a native or near-native Italian speaker with excellent written Italian. Success in this role depends on exceptional listening skills, close attention to detail, and the ability to follow complex instructions while working independently with web-based tools.

• Native or near-native fluency in Italian
• Understanding of regional Italian accents
• Exceptional listening skills for capturing nuance in audio
• Strong Italian spelling, grammar, and punctuation
• Ability to follow detailed transcription style guides
• Comfort working independently with web-based transcription tools

Helpful Background

Previous experience is helpful but not required for this entry-level opportunity. Backgrounds involving spoken-language accuracy, detailed transcription, or annotation may help you get started.

• Transcriptionist, court reporter, or stenographer experience
• Subtitling or closed-captioning experience
• Background in linguistics
• Familiarity with annotation or data-labeling platforms
