About AI Speech Training

AI training is the human work behind systems that understand speech and language. Contributors transcribe and review real-world recordings so AI models can learn from natural conversations, varied accents, regional speech, and everyday language.

  • Fully remote work completed online
  • Flexible project work that can fit around other commitments
  • No prior AI background required
  • Directly contribute to the development of speech and language technology

The Italian Audio Transcriptionist Role

OpenTrain is seeking an Italian Audio Transcriptionist to produce high-quality transcriptions of Italian speech recordings for AI training. You will work with conversations, interviews, meetings, and other real-world audio while capturing spoken Italian accurately and consistently.

This is a fully remote, flexible contractor role for candidates located in the United States. The position is listed as entry level and does not require previous AI experience.

  • Contractor and part-time opportunity
  • United States candidates only
  • Expected commitment of 20 or more hours per week
  • The role description indicates a flexible range of 10 to 40 hours per week
  • Hourly pay listed from $10 to $35

What You’ll Do

You will convert spoken Italian into precise, verbatim transcripts while following project instructions closely. The work requires careful listening and the ability to represent natural speech accurately, even when recordings are difficult to understand.

  • Listen to Italian recordings from conversations, interviews, meetings, and other real-world settings
  • Transcribe crosstalk, overlapping speakers, filled pauses, false starts, and other natural speech phenomena
  • Identify and distinguish multiple speakers throughout recordings
  • Work with background noise, low-quality audio, varying accents, and regional dialects
  • Apply timestamps, speaker labels, and annotation tags when required
  • Follow detailed transcription style guides and formatting conventions
  • Flag unclear or inaudible segments according to project protocols

Required Skills

Success in this role depends on excellent Italian listening and writing skills, strong attention to detail, and a consistent approach to following detailed instructions. You should be comfortable working independently with web-based tools.

  • Native or near-native fluency in Italian
  • Understanding of spoken Italian across registers, speeds, and regional variations
  • Exceptional listening skills and a strong ear for nuance
  • Comfort transcribing messy, real-world audio rather than only clean studio recordings
  • Strong written Italian, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation
  • Ability to apply timestamps, speaker labels, and annotation tags
  • Ability to follow complex style and formatting guidelines consistently
  • Reliable, self-motivated approach to independent work
  • Comfort using web-based tools and platforms

Preferred Experience

Previous transcription experience is helpful but not required. Related experience in language services, audio production, annotation, or detailed style-guide work can also support your application.

  • Transcription, court reporting, or stenography
  • Subtitle creation, closed captioning, or post-production editing
  • Linguistics, phonetics, or language documentation
  • Annotation or data-labeling platforms
  • Knowledge of Italian regional dialects and informal registers
  • Translation, localization, or other language services
  • Professional experience working with detailed style guides

Who Should Apply

This opportunity may suit native or near-native Italian speakers who notice subtle details in spoken language and want flexible, remote work connected to the future of AI. It is especially relevant for people with transcription, captioning, language, editing, or careful quality-review experience.

  • Candidates located in the United States
  • Italian speakers comfortable with varied accents and informal speech
  • Detail-oriented people who can maintain accuracy across large volumes of work
  • Independent workers who can manage their own schedule
  • Applicants seeking entry-level AI training experience
