About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Contributors prepare examples, write questions, assess outputs, and provide structured feedback that helps AI systems understand technical concepts more accurately.

This role brings specialist CAD and design knowledge into that process. It is remote, flexible contractor work that lets experienced contributors apply their expertise to cutting-edge AI development.

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking an Industrial Design CAD Question Writer to review complex multi-part assemblies in native FreeCAD format and convert technical design knowledge into high-quality AI training content. You will analyze design intent, structure, function, and relationships within assemblies, then create precise technical questions with exact, non-guessable answers.

This opportunity is suited to a domain specialist who can explain complex CAD details clearly, produce structured content, and maintain a high standard of technical accuracy.

  • Remote contractor position
  • Part-time schedule of 20 or more hours per week
  • Flexible schedule and project duration, confirmed for the project
  • English-language work
  • Worldwide eligibility

What You'll Do

You will turn detailed CAD assembly analysis into objective question-and-answer content for AI training. Your work should make technical relationships understandable while ensuring that every answer is exact and supported by the assembly or its documentation.

  • Review multi-part CAD assemblies and interpret their design intent
  • Identify important assembly features, functions, structures, and relationships
  • Author several unique technical questions and exact answers for each assembly
  • Ensure questions and answers are clear, objective, precise, and unambiguous
  • Apply mechanical engineering, aerospace, or industrial design knowledge to technical analysis
  • Provide feedback and suggestions that support continuous improvement of project processes

Requirements

You should be comfortable interpreting complex technical designs and communicating your analysis in structured written form. Prior FreeCAD experience is helpful, but experience with FreeCAD is not required if you understand comparable CAD environments.

  • Background in mechanical engineering, aerospace, or industrial design
  • Strong foundational CAD knowledge and experience interpreting multi-part assemblies
  • Ability to work with CAD files, assembly drawings, and technical documentation
  • Experience authoring technical documentation, assessment materials, or comparable structured content
  • Understanding of FreeCAD or similar CAD software environments
  • Judgment for identifying assembly structure, function, relationships, and design intent
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication with meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage deliverables consistently

Helpful Background

Experience supporting technical education, assessment, or AI-related initiatives through expert-created content can be useful. The key is the ability to apply technical judgment and express complex CAD information with precision.

Pay and Schedule

This is remote contractor work paid at $40-$80 per hour. The role is part time with a 20 or more hour weekly commitment, while the schedule and project duration remain flexible and will be confirmed for the project.

  • $40-$80 per hour
  • Contractor engagement
