About OpenTrain

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role. OpenTrain is the leading platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling, helping specialists discover projects, build a professional profile, and apply in minutes.

Creating an OpenTrain account is free. Your experience in healthcare operations can help shape practical AI systems while you build a portfolio of specialized training work.

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. People with real-world expertise create examples, write scenarios, and evaluate model outputs so AI systems can learn to handle complex situations accurately.

This work is remote and flexible, making it possible to contribute part time while applying the judgment you already use in your professional field. Your healthcare operations knowledge will help train AI agents on realistic administrative workflows and exceptions.

The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Healthcare Operations AI Training Expert to create realistic, complex scenarios based on administrative and back-office healthcare work. You will build supporting records, author operational tasks, and evaluate the quality of work used to train AI agents.

The role emphasizes domain judgment and exception handling rather than high-volume processing. Scenarios may reflect hospitals, physician groups, ambulatory practices, health plans, specialty providers, and revenue cycle organizations.

  • Contractor, part-time engagement
  • Less than 20 hours per week
  • $50 USD per hour
  • English-language work
  • Available in the listed European countries, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United States

What You'll Do

You will design operationally credible healthcare scenarios and the contextual materials needed to make each task realistic. You will then author and evaluate healthcare operations tasks used in AI training.

Your work will require defensible decisions and clear explanations when handling complex workflows, disputes, audits, and exceptions.

  • Create scenarios involving medical coding, prior authorization, utilization management, revenue cycle operations, claims, billing, compliance, and healthcare administration
  • Build supporting records and contextual materials for realistic healthcare operations tasks
  • Evaluate the quality of work produced for AI training
  • Analyze appeals, payer disputes, coding or DRG audits, denials, reimbursement questions, and workflow exceptions
  • Apply sound operational judgment and explain the reasoning behind your decisions

Required Experience and Skills

You should have at least three years of recent, hands-on experience in a healthcare administrative or back-office role and currently work in the field. The listing is marked entry level, but practical healthcare operations experience is required for the work.

Relevant expertise may come from provider, payer, revenue cycle, coding, utilization, compliance, claims, billing, or related healthcare operations. You should be able to construct complicated operational problems, make defensible judgments, and explain your reasoning clearly.

  • Recent hands-on healthcare administrative or back-office experience
  • Practical expertise in medical coding, prior authorization, utilization, revenue cycle, claims, billing, compliance, or payer operations
  • Ability to analyze healthcare exceptions, appeals, denials, or payer disputes and defend operational decisions
  • Ability to construct realistic healthcare scenarios and supporting records for AI task evaluation
  • Familiarity with payer portals, EHR or practice-management systems, coding tools, or clearinghouses

Helpful Background

The following experience is particularly useful for creating nuanced, credible training scenarios. Experience across multiple care settings or on both the provider and payer sides is also valued.

  • Owning an appeal or payer dispute from start to finish
  • Running coding or DRG audits
  • Defending code assignments
  • Leading an EHR conversion or payer implementation
  • Writing standard operating procedures
  • Supervising staff
  • Serving on a denials or audit committee
