About Healthcare AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts create realistic examples, write task instructions, and evaluate model outputs so AI systems can learn to respond more accurately and consistently.

This role focuses on judgment-based authoring and evaluation rather than high-volume processing. Your healthcare operations knowledge will help train AI agents on workflows involving records, exceptions, disputes, and operational decisions.

  • Work on cutting-edge AI development
  • Apply real-world healthcare administrative judgment
  • Contribute to tasks involving text generation and evaluation

The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Healthcare Operations AI Task Author and Evaluator to create realistic healthcare administrative scenarios, build supporting records, and author and evaluate tasks used to train AI agents.

The work may draw on medical coding, prior authorization, utilization management, revenue cycle operations, claims and billing, compliance, payer operations, health information management, and related workflows.

  • Role type: Remote contractor and part-time work
  • Pay: $50-$65 per hour
  • Default commitment: 40 hours per week
  • Minimum commitment: 10 hours per week
  • Posted time requirement: 20+ hours per week
  • Eligible locations may include the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, continental Europe, Australia, and New Zealand

What You'll Do

You will use professional healthcare operations experience to design complex scenarios and provide clear, defensible evaluations. The work requires understanding how administrative systems and workflows operate in practice, including how teams respond to exceptions and disputes.

  • Design realistic scenarios based on healthcare operations experience
  • Build records and task context that reflect administrative and operational workflows
  • Author and evaluate AI training tasks using sound professional judgment
  • Apply expertise in coding, appeals, denials, utilization review, billing, reimbursement, payer administration, and revenue integrity
  • Assess operational exceptions and disputes
  • Produce clear workflow or standard operating procedure documentation when relevant
  • Explain the reasoning behind evaluation decisions

Required Qualifications

You should have at least two years of recent, hands-on experience in a healthcare administrative or back-office role and be currently working in the field. Candidates outside the United States should bring knowledge of their own country's insurance, funding, or billing system.

  • Recent hands-on experience in healthcare administrative or back-office operations
  • Practical expertise in at least one relevant area, such as medical coding, prior authorization, utilization management, revenue cycle, claims, billing, compliance, or payer operations
  • Experience using payer portals, EHR or practice-management platforms, encoders, computer-assisted coding tools, or clearinghouses
  • Strong judgment when handling complex workflows, disputes, audits, denials, and exceptions
  • Ability to construct realistic healthcare operations scenarios
  • Ability to explain evaluation decisions clearly

Helpful Professional Background

The following experience is especially relevant to the work. Experience across multiple care settings or on both the provider and payer sides is valuable.

  • Owning appeals or payer disputes
  • Conducting coding or DRG audits
  • Defending code assignments
  • Leading EHR conversions or payer implementations
  • Writing payer-specific procedures
  • Supervising healthcare operations staff
  • Serving on denials or audit committees
  • Understanding your country's insurance, funding, or billing system
