The Role
OpenTrain is seeking a German Audio Transcriptionist to create accurate transcriptions of German-language recordings for AI training. This fully remote contract role is based in Vienna, Austria, and is suitable for entry-level applicants with excellent listening and written German skills.
The work is task-based and asynchronous, allowing you to work independently at your own pace while maintaining consistent quality across large volumes of audio.

What You’ll Do
You will turn spoken German into precise written records while applying detailed transcription conventions. Recordings may include difficult listening conditions, multiple speakers, and non-verbal elements that must be captured consistently.
Listen to German-language audio and produce precise verbatim transcriptions
Parse recordings with crosstalk, background noise, and simultaneous speakers
Identify and distinguish different speakers throughout each recording
Follow detailed style and formatting guidelines
Apply conventions for non-verbal sounds and incomplete utterances
Maintain high accuracy across large volumes of audio
Complete assignments independently and asynchronously
Requirements
You do not need prior AI experience. Success in this role depends on strong German language ability, careful listening, patience, and the discipline to apply detailed rules consistently.
Native or near-native fluency in German; Austrian German speakers are especially welcome
Exceptional listening skills for difficult or noisy audio
Strong written German, including spelling, punctuation, and grammar
Ability to follow style guides and formatting rules consistently
A methodical, detail-oriented approach to repetitive tasks
Self-motivation and reliability when working without direct supervision
Comfort using web-based tools and platforms
Helpful Additional Experience
The following background is welcome but not required. Experience with spoken-language work or transcription tools may help you handle varied recordings and specialized conventions.
Professional transcription, court reporting, or stenography experience
Subtitling, closed-captioning, or media post-production experience
Linguistics training or academic study of the German language
Experience with annotation platforms or data-labeling workflows
Familiarity with transcription software or audio editing tools
Awareness of Austrian German idioms, colloquialisms, and regional dialect patterns
