About AI Training Work

AI training is the human work behind modern artificial intelligence. Contributors review and improve examples such as audio, transcripts, images, and model responses so AI systems can better understand and respond to real-world information.

Audio transcription and alignment auditing is especially important for speech systems. Careful human review helps ensure that spoken language is represented accurately, with reliable text and timing data.

  • Help improve speech and language AI systems
  • Use listening, language, and quality-review skills
  • Work remotely with flexible part-time hours

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a German Audio Transcription and Alignment Auditor to review AI training audio, transcriptions, and word-level alignment data. You will evaluate whether spoken German is represented accurately, apply defined error codes, verify timing boundaries, and correct transcription or alignment issues when needed.

The role is suitable for entry-level applicants who have strong German listening skills, careful attention to detail, and the ability to follow written rubrics consistently. Previous experience in transcription, subtitling, localization, linguistic annotation, or quality assurance is helpful but not required.

  • Entry-level experience level
  • German as spoken in Germany
  • Remote contractor and part-time work
  • $41.50 USD per hour
  • About 10 hours per week

What You'll Do

You will listen to recordings of human or agent speech and compare them with existing transcriptions. For each item, you will determine whether the text accurately reflects what was spoken, apply every relevant error code, and provide a clear rationale for your judgment.

You will also review word-level forced-alignment segments, checking timestamps and reference text. When necessary, you will correct inaccurate boundaries by splitting, merging, adding, or removing segments. A calibration phase must be completed before production auditing begins.

  • Review German speech recordings and existing transcriptions
  • Assess whether text accurately reflects spoken audio
  • Apply all relevant error codes from the written rubric
  • Explain audit decisions with clear rationales
  • Verify word-level timestamps and reference text
  • Correct alignment boundaries by splitting, merging, adding, or removing segments
  • Identify critical errors clearly
  • Complete calibration before production auditing

Requirements

You should be able to distinguish similar sounds, identify word boundaries in continuous speech, and tell the difference between genuine acoustic ambiguity and a clear annotation error. Strong English is needed to read rulebooks and write audit rationales.

  • Native or near-native German as spoken in Germany
  • Strong English reading and writing skills
  • Accurate transcription and word-level timestamp judgment
  • Consistent application of error-code rubrics
  • Careful listening and attention to detail
  • Ability to distinguish acoustic ambiguity from annotation errors

Who Should Apply

This opportunity may suit German speakers who enjoy detailed audio review and structured quality checks. Experience in transcription, subtitling, localization, linguistic annotation, or quality assurance can help, but it is not required for this entry-level role.

  • German speakers with near-native or native fluency
  • Applicants comfortable reviewing speech at the word level
  • People who can follow detailed written instructions consistently
  • Careful listeners interested in how speech AI is built
