About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help specialists turn language and evaluation skills into a durable freelance career by providing work, tracking, and a unified AI training portfolio.

As the hiring organization for this role, OpenTrain connects your localization expertise directly to real AI training tasks that shape model behavior while helping you grow a visible record of your work.

About AI training and localization work

AI training (data labeling/annotation) is the human side of building intelligent systems: people prepare, review, and judge examples that models learn from. Localization and linguistic QA play a central role when models generate language for specific locales and cultures.

This work is remote, flexible, and accessible: many projects require language skill, editorial judgment, and attention to detail rather than prior AI engineering experience. Contributors influence how state-of-the-art systems behave in real-world languages and contexts.

The role

OpenTrain is recruiting German AI localization and evaluation experts to review AI-generated responses, produce model answers in German when needed, and judge accuracy, reasoning quality, and cultural fit for the Germany locale.

This is an hourly contractor, part-time role for Germany-based candidates only. Work typically requires 20+ hours/week and pays up to $50/hour. There are 100 total openings.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
  • Location requirement: Germany-based candidates only
  • Time commitment: 20+ hours/week
  • Pay: Up to $50.00 USD per hour
  • Openings: 100

What you'll do

Apply senior German localization judgment across diverse prompts and use cases to improve model outputs and training data.

Work tasks blend editorial duties (translation, localization, QA) with model-evaluation tasks (rating, comparison, and writing model solutions).

  • Review AI responses for accuracy, clarity, adherence to prompts, and logical reasoning.
  • Generate German-language model answers and exemplar solutions when required.
  • Assess mistakes in method, terminology, tone, and cultural nuance for Germany locale.
  • Fact-check references, units, names, dates, and other localized details.
  • Compare and score multiple AI responses on correctness and reasoning quality.

Required qualifications

You must meet the language, tooling, and editorial requirements below; OpenTrain respects documented skill and experience — do not apply unless you meet these core qualifications.

  • Native or near-native German proficiency with strong command of Germany locale conventions.
  • Minimum C1 English reading and writing to interpret prompts and guidelines.
  • Experience in German translation, localization, linguistic QA, or related editorial work.
  • Familiarity with MQM or LQA frameworks: applying severity, category, and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience with CAT tools, translation memory, termbases, and QA workflows.
  • Strong editorial judgment, attention to detail, and ability to work reliably as an hourly contractor.

Helpful background

These are not required but will make your application more competitive and immediately productive on higher-complexity tasks.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in German Translation, Linguistics, Localization, Communications, or related fields.
  • Previous experience with AI data training, annotation, or evaluation workflows.

How the work is organized

You will complete evaluation and generation tasks as hourly contractor work, following OpenTrain-provided guidelines and quality frameworks (MQM/LQA). Expect to document decisions and show clear, reproducible judgments.

Tasks include rating model outputs, writing exemplar solutions in German, and performing fact-checking and editorial corrections. Work is remote and asynchronous; you set hours consistent with the 20+ hours/week expectation.

  • Label types: Text generation, evaluation rating, RLHF-related tasks.
  • Data type: Text.
  • Compensation is hourly at the stated rate; contractors are responsible for their own taxes and compliance with local laws.

Who should apply

Experienced German localizers, linguistic QA specialists, translators, and senior editors who combine language expertise with rigorous editorial judgment should apply.

If you are Germany-based, reliable as an hourly contractor, fluent in German and English, and comfortable with MQM/LQA and CAT-tool workflows, this role is a strong fit.
