The Full-Stack AI Software Engineer Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Full-Stack AI Software Engineer to build, integrate, and stress-test software around frontier large language models before release. You will connect pre-release model APIs to usable software, create tools that assess model behavior, and maintain sound architecture as requirements change.

The engagement suits an experienced engineer who can move through unfamiliar codebases quickly, deliver working increments, and communicate technical decisions clearly to research and engineering stakeholders.

• Build and ship production applications, services, and internal tools

What You'll Do

You will combine software engineering execution with structured model evaluation. The work includes prototyping against changing requirements, diagnosing failures across model and application layers, and documenting findings for technical audiences.

• Develop in Python, Java, Rust, C#, C++, or TypeScript
• Use backend services, APIs, modern frontend software, databases, and cloud deployment
• Work with React or an equivalent modern frontend framework
• Create evaluation harnesses, telemetry, developer tools, or related integrations
• Explain complex technical findings and decisions in writing
• Deliver working code with minimal ramp-up in unfamiliar codebases

Required Qualifications

You should have at least three years of dedicated professional experience building and shipping production software. The role requires production experience in at least one listed programming language and working proficiency in a second language, along with practical full-stack development experience.

• At least three years of professional production software experience
• Production experience in at least one of Python, Java, Rust, C#, or C++
• Working proficiency in a second programming language
• Hands-on experience with backend services and APIs
• Experience with React or an equivalent modern frontend framework
• Experience with relational or document databases and cloud deployment
• Ability to onboard to unfamiliar codebases and deliver quickly
• Strong written communication and technical documentation skills
