About AI Speech Training

Speech AI systems learn from carefully prepared recordings that people edit, review, and evaluate. Audio contributors help improve text-to-speech and voice technologies by ensuring recordings are technically clean, consistent, accurately pronounced, and natural-sounding.

The Role

OpenTrain AI is hiring a French-language audio engineer to prepare high-quality French audio datasets for text-to-speech and speech AI systems. You will edit voice recordings, perform detailed audio quality checks, and evaluate French pronunciation, fluency, and naturalness across large batches of files.

This is a remote, project-based opportunity open worldwide. The engagement is part-time contract work requiring 20+ hours per week.

  • Pay: $50 USD per hour
  • Work arrangement: Remote and worldwide
  • Engagement: Part-time contractor
  • Experience level: Entry level

What You'll Do

You will support structured speech-data workflows by preparing recordings for machine learning pipelines and maintaining consistent technical and linguistic quality across high-volume batches.

  • Edit and process French voice recordings for TTS and speech AI systems
  • Trim silence and reduce or remove breaths, clicks, sibilance, and background noise
  • Perform de-clicking, de-essing, noise reduction, and other audio restoration tasks
  • Check recordings for clipping, distortion, background noise, loudness consistency, and level balance
  • Ensure audio meets strict technical specifications for machine learning training pipelines
  • Evaluate French pronunciation accuracy, fluency, and naturalness
  • Work consistently and efficiently across large batches of recordings
  • Collaborate on French speech datasets, voice talent recordings, and model training workflows

Requirements

This role requires native or near-native French fluency, strong listening intuition for French speech, and practical experience editing spoken-word or voice recordings. Candidates should be comfortable identifying and correcting both technical audio defects and pronunciation or naturalness issues.

  • Native or near-native French speaker
  • Experience editing speech or voice recordings, rather than only music production
  • Strong understanding of speech audio quality standards and common recorded-dialogue issues
  • Hands-on experience with iZotope RX, Pro Tools, or similar audio restoration software
  • Ability to identify and fix audio artifacts, inconsistencies, and technical defects
  • Experience working with high-volume audio datasets or structured workflows
  • Ability to evaluate French pronunciation accuracy and naturalness
  • Availability for 20+ hours per week

Helpful Background

The following experience is helpful for this project, although it is not listed as required.

  • Experience working with TTS vendors or platforms
  • Prior involvement in speech machine learning, voice AI, or dataset creation and annotation
  • Familiarity with audio quality assurance, labeling, or evaluation processes
  • Experience directing or editing French voice talent recordings
