About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect skilled contributors with projects that shape how modern AI systems behave, and creating an OpenTrain account is free.

This role is part of OpenTrain’s mission to help people start and grow careers teaching AI: find projects, build a profile, and apply quickly to remote contract work.

About AI training and why it matters

AI training (data labeling, annotation, and human feedback work) is the human side of building intelligent systems. Contributors prepare, evaluate, and correct examples that modern language models learn from.

These projects are frequently remote and flexible, and let you directly influence how leading AI models reason, write, and respond in real languages and locales.

The role

You will work as a remote hourly contractor evaluating French-language outputs from large language models and producing expert corrections and explanations. Your judgments and written revisions will help improve model accuracy, clarity, and reasoning.

This is a text-focused role that combines careful linguistic analysis with practical content editing: you will both rate model responses and generate corrected or improved model outputs.

What you'll do day to day

  • Review AI-generated French responses for accuracy, logic, clarity, adherence to prompts, and register.
  • Identify factual errors, flawed reasoning, ambiguities, and meaning drift between source and output.
  • Write clear explanations of errors and provide model revisions that demonstrate correct methods or phrasing.
  • Compare and rate multiple AI responses by correctness and reasoning quality.
  • Enforce terminology consistency and apply style guidance for specific audiences or locales.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Linguistics, French, Translation/Localization, Communications, or a related field (required).
  • Native or near-native French proficiency; C2 level preferred.
  • Minimum C1 English proficiency in reading and writing.
  • Strong command of French grammar: agreement, tense, mood, syntax, and punctuation conventions.
  • Demonstrated experience with semantics, pragmatics, tone, register, and discourse-level editing in French.
  • Ability to spot subtle language errors, ambiguity, and locale inconsistencies with high precision.
  • Experience enforcing terminology consistency and style guidance.
  • Strong written communication skills for explaining corrections clearly.
  • Prior editorial QA, translation/localization QA, professional editing, or AI data training/annotation preferred.
  • Able to work independently and maintain consistent quality in a remote, hourly contractor workflow.

Who should apply

Apply if you are an experienced French linguist, translator, editor, or localization professional who enjoys close linguistic analysis and improving model outputs. This role suits bilingual experts who can explain corrections clearly in written form.

  • Ideal for professionals with editorial, QA, or localization backgrounds and strong French writing skills.
  • Good fit if you want remote, contract, part-time work that directly shapes how AI handles French content.
