The work

You will use direct borrower counseling experience to assess whether AI systems give accurate, complete, current, and useful guidance about federal student loans. The work is remote, asynchronous, and focused on careful written and practical judgment.

  • Review sample federal student loan questions and identify inquiries that do not reflect realistic borrower needs.
  • Create and refine rubrics that define accurate, complete answers about repayment, income-driven repayment plans, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and other relief programs.
  • Expand rubric coverage to deferment, forbearance, default management, loan servicing operations, and servicer-related challenges.
  • Evaluate AI-generated answers for inaccurate, missing, outdated, unclear, or problematic servicing guidance.
  • Give concise, constructive feedback in writing and work with other experts to keep guidance aligned with current federal student loan practices.

What it pays and takes

This is a short-term individual contractor project for someone with practical federal student loan expertise. AI experience is not required, but direct borrower counseling experience is important.

  • $30 to $50 per hour.
  • Approximately 15 to 25 hours per week.
  • Remote and asynchronous collaboration.
  • Open to candidates in the United States.
  • At least one year of direct experience advising borrowers on federal student loans through nonprofit counseling, higher education financial aid, loan servicing, or default management.
  • Strong knowledge of repayment strategies, income-driven repayment plans, forgiveness programs such as Public Service Loan Forgiveness, deferment, forbearance, and default resolution.
  • Practical understanding of loan servicing operations and clear borrower communication.
  • Fluent in English, with the ability to explain technical guidance clearly and efficiently in writing and verbally.
  • Familiarity with current federal student loan regulations and practices.
  • Comfort reviewing or creating guidance documents, rubrics, or training materials.

Helpful background

Experience creating student loan guidance, rubrics, or training materials is useful. Experience with AI systems is not required; the role values direct borrower counseling and federal student loan knowledge.
