  • Remote contract opportunity available worldwide
  • Part-time schedule with a commitment of 20+ hours per week
  • Paid at $45-$60 per hour

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Educators and other specialists create examples, assess model responses, and provide feedback that helps AI produce more accurate, useful, and responsible results.

In this role, your professional judgment will help AI systems better understand real educational work, from lesson planning and assessment to differentiation, accommodations, and student feedback.

  • Contribute to cutting-edge generative AI development
  • Apply practical education expertise to realistic training tasks
  • Work remotely with flexible, project-based responsibilities

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking experienced educators to design task scenarios and evaluate AI-generated educational outputs. You will translate your teaching, assessment, and instructional-design workflows into structured training data while considering accuracy, standards alignment, grade-level appropriateness, and pedagogical soundness.

This is a part-time contractor role conducted in English. The expected commitment is 20 or more hours per week, with compensation of $45-$60 per hour.

  • Employment type: Contractor and part time
  • Work location: Worldwide and fully remote
  • Primary language: English
  • Data focus: Text generation and evaluation/rating

What You'll Do

You will create realistic examples that reflect how educators reason through classroom and instructional challenges. You will also review model outputs and write precise feedback that helps improve AI performance on teaching-related tasks.

  • Design scenarios involving lesson planning, assessment, and item writing
  • Create tasks involving grading against rubrics, differentiation, and intervention
  • Develop examples related to curriculum and unit design, IEPs, accommodations, and student feedback
  • Review and compare AI-generated educational outputs
  • Evaluate accuracy, alignment with standards such as Common Core and NGSS, grade-level appropriateness, and pedagogical judgment
  • Provide clear written feedback to improve AI responses
  • Collaborate asynchronously with the research team

Requirements

Applicants should bring substantial professional education experience and strong written communication skills. A bachelor's degree in education or a subject-matter field is required.

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in education
  • Experience may include K-12 or higher education teaching, curriculum or instructional design, assessment, special education, tutoring, or a related field
  • Experience designing educational scenarios, assessments, or rubrics
  • Familiarity with tools such as Google Classroom, Canvas, and student information systems such as PowerSchool
  • Strong written communication and close attention to detail
  • State teaching license, National Board Certification, or an advanced degree such as an MEd, EdD, PhD, or subject master's is preferred but not required

Helpful Background

The strongest candidates understand how educational decisions vary across subjects, grade bands, learner needs, and instructional contexts. Experience working across education specialties can help you create nuanced scenarios and recognize high-quality model responses.

  • Experience across multiple education specialties or grade bands
  • Familiarity with assessment and curriculum platforms
  • Previous experience contributing to AI training or data-labeling projects

Why This Work Matters

Every major AI system depends on carefully prepared and reviewed human examples. By contributing your education expertise, you can directly influence whether AI understands instructional goals, responds appropriately to learners, and supports sound teaching practice.

  • Shape how emerging AI systems handle real education scenarios
  • Use your professional knowledge in a flexible remote setting
  • Build experience in one of the fastest-growing areas of tech
