About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts create examples, review model outputs, and write evaluation standards so AI systems can perform more accurately in real-world settings. In this role, your K-12 expertise will help distinguish authentic educator judgment from generic pedagogical knowledge.

  • Contribute to the development and evaluation of cutting-edge AI systems
  • Use your professional knowledge in a flexible, remote environment
  • Help shape how AI supports instructional design, student services, and school operations

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking an experienced K-12 education leader to design evaluation tasks and develop rubrics for AI systems used in large public school district and state education contexts. You will create realistic scenarios, draft reference outputs, and define standards that reflect authentic practice across instructional design, special education, assessment, student support, and district operations.

This contract role is remote and pays $40-$50 per hour. The role is listed for 40 hours per week, with a structured time requirement of 20+ hours per week.

  • Employment type: Contractor and part-time
  • Pay: $40-$50 per hour
  • Work arrangement: Remote, worldwide
  • Primary language: English

What You'll Do

You will translate practical K-12 leadership experience into detailed AI evaluation content. Your work will cover classroom, student-support, instructional, administrative, and community-facing scenarios.

  • Construct K-12 scenarios spanning curriculum design, IEP/504 planning, and district budget or policy review cycles
  • Build tasks across instructional design, special education, assessment alignment, and family or community engagement
  • Develop operational scenarios involving PowerSchool, Canvas or Google Classroom, state assessment platforms, and MTSS/RTI systems
  • Apply Universal Design for Learning, standards-based grading, and data-driven instruction frameworks
  • Produce reference lesson plans, IEP documentation, and administrator-level communications
  • Author rubrics that distinguish authentic K-12 educator judgment from generic pedagogical recall

Requirements

This role requires substantial hands-on experience in K-12 education and direct responsibility for instructional, special education, curriculum, or school and district initiatives. Candidates should be comfortable applying education frameworks and operational knowledge to realistic evaluation tasks.

  • At least 5 years teaching, administering, or leading instruction at a public or private K-12 school, district office, or state education agency
  • Direct ownership of classroom instruction, IEP or special education caseloads, curriculum programs, or school or district-level initiatives
  • Fluency in K-12 education tools and frameworks
  • Understanding of school budgets, state standards compliance, and family or community engagement
  • Experience with tools such as PowerSchool, Canvas, state assessment platforms, or comparable K-12 systems
  • Helpful background in authoring rubrics, curriculum, or teacher-training content

Who Should Apply

This opportunity is well suited to educators and education leaders who can turn nuanced professional judgment into clear scenarios, reference answers, and scoring criteria. It may be a strong fit for teachers, special education leaders, curriculum specialists, school administrators, district leaders, and state education professionals with the required experience.

  • K-12 teachers with ownership of instruction or curriculum programs
  • Special education professionals with IEP caseload or planning experience
  • School and district administrators familiar with policy, budgets, and operations
  • Education leaders experienced in assessment, teacher training, or rubric development
