About AI Safety Evaluation Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts write prompts, assess model responses, and classify conversations so AI systems can become more accurate, useful, and responsible.

In this role, your scientific judgment will help evaluate model behavior around sensitive and dual-use information, including topics related to chemical safety, biosafety, biosecurity, hazardous materials, and other scientific risks.

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a Dutch STEM AI Safety Evaluation Expert to evaluate advanced AI models on specialized scientific topics in Netherlands Dutch. The work combines expert prompt writing, response assessment, and structured classification of scientific conversations.

This is a remote, part-time contractor opportunity for someone with PhD-level expertise in chemistry, biology, or a closely related scientific field. The role requires less than 20 hours per week and pays $61 to $65 per hour.

  • Employment type: Contractor and part time
  • Work arrangement: Remote
  • Location requirement: Currently residing in the Netherlands
  • Time requirement: Less than 20 hours per week
  • Pay: $61 to $65 per hour
  • Languages: Netherlands Dutch and English

What You’ll Do

You will apply focused scientific expertise to create high-quality evaluation data for advanced AI systems. Your work will require careful reasoning, precise language, and consistent use of structured guidelines.

You will assess both the scientific quality of model outputs and whether they handle sensitive information responsibly.

  • Write expert-level prompts in Netherlands Dutch across a focused STEM subfield
  • Evaluate model responses for scientific accuracy and helpfulness
  • Annotate responses for appropriate handling of sensitive content
  • Classify prompts and conversations using structured evaluation guidelines
  • Identify issues involving chemical safety, biosafety, biosecurity, hazardous materials, or other dual-use information
  • Apply scientific judgment to support responsible AI model development

Requirements

You should have an ongoing or completed PhD in chemistry, biology, or a closely related scientific field, with depth in a focused subfield. The role is suitable for candidates who can combine advanced subject-matter knowledge with careful evaluation of technical content.

Prior AI or machine learning experience is not required. Workflow training is provided, but you must already be able to make sound scientific safety judgments and communicate precisely.

  • Ongoing or completed PhD-level expertise in chemistry, biology, or a closely related field
  • Ability to write precise expert prompts in Netherlands Dutch
  • Native or near-native fluency in Dutch as spoken in the Netherlands
  • Business-level written English
  • Familiarity with modern laboratory or computational techniques
  • Understanding of scientific safety practices and responsible treatment of dual-use information
  • Current residence in the Netherlands

Relevant Scientific Background

Experience reviewing, grading, or red-teaming technical content is helpful. Additional relevant preparation may include work or coursework in chemical safety and security, biosafety and biosecurity, hazardous-materials handling, radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry, energetic materials, or radiation physics.

Focused expertise in areas such as organic or inorganic synthesis, molecular biology, microbiology, virology, or genetics is valued.

Why Work in AI Training

AI training and data labeling are rapidly growing areas of technology work. Human experts help shape how modern AI systems reason, communicate, evaluate evidence, and respond to challenging real-world questions.

Remote project work can offer a flexible way to apply specialized knowledge outside traditional research or employment settings while contributing directly to the development of cutting-edge AI.

  • Work remotely with a computer and internet connection
  • Choose a part-time workload of less than 20 hours per week
  • Apply scientific expertise to advanced AI evaluation
  • Help improve model accuracy, helpfulness, and safety
  • Receive workflow training without needing prior AI or machine learning experience
