The Role

OpenTrain AI is recruiting a Croatian STEM AI Safety Evaluator to support scientific AI training and evaluation. You will combine doctoral-level expertise with Croatian-language prompt writing, model-response assessment, and structured classification of technical conversations.

The work focuses on scientific accuracy, helpfulness, sensitive-content handling, and responsible treatment of dual-use information. Applicants based in Croatia or wider Eastern Europe may be a strong fit, and candidates elsewhere are also welcome.

• Remote freelance contractor position
• Part-time commitment of approximately 7 hours per week
• Compensation of $48-$52 USD per hour
• Croatian and English language work

What You'll Do

You will apply subject-matter judgment to determine whether AI-generated content is scientifically accurate, helpful, complete, and appropriately cautious. Your feedback will support safer model behavior across specialized scientific topics.

• Write expert-level prompts in Croatian across specialized scientific topics.
• Evaluate model responses for scientific accuracy and helpfulness.
• Assess whether responses handle sensitive content appropriately.
• Annotate and classify prompts and conversations using structured guidelines.
• Identify scientifically unsafe, misleading, or incomplete responses.
• Provide clear, technically grounded feedback to improve model behavior.

Requirements

This opportunity requires advanced scientific training, strong Croatian and English communication skills, and sound judgment around scientific safety. You should be comfortable evaluating technical AI outputs and applying structured guidance to sensitive subject matter.

• Ongoing or completed PhD in chemistry, biology, or a closely related scientific field.
• Native or near-native Croatian fluency.
• Business-level written English.
• Strong familiarity with modern laboratory or computational techniques in a relevant subfield.
• Ability to write precise scientific prompts and evaluate technical model outputs.
• Sound judgment regarding scientific safety and responsible handling of dual-use information.

Helpful Background

Experience in specialized scientific or technical-content settings can support success in this work. Relevant backgrounds include laboratory safety, biological research, chemical research, radiological topics, computational techniques, or review of technical material.
