OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help freelancers find specialized AI-training projects, consolidate proof-of-work, and grow a durable portfolio that represents their skills.
OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role. We recruit subject-matter experts to produce high-quality labeled training data and technical evaluations that teach and improve AI systems.
Why AI Training Work Matters
AI training (data labeling and human-feedback work) is the human side of building modern AI systems. Experts prepare and review real-world examples that models learn from—your technical work will directly shape how models handle tax and financial topics.
These projects are often fully remote and flexible, making them ideal for experienced tax professionals who want predictable, part-time contracting work without relocating.
Remote contractor work you can do from anywhere in the United States.
Flexible, part-time cadence (typical default about 15 hours/week).
Work on cutting-edge, document-based labeling and RLHF/evaluation-rating tasks used to train and validate AI.
The Role
You will review mock corporate tax files and produce graded, self-contained deliverables that mirror real-world technical tax work. Deliverables include ASC 740 provision buildouts, compliance workpapers, international tax computations, transfer pricing documentation, and transaction tax memoranda.
Work is document-first: expect to read and analyze tax workpapers, intercompany agreements, policy materials, and deal documents, then produce technical computations, reconciliations, and written positions suitable for grading.
What You'll Do (Core Tasks)
Build quarterly and annual income tax provisions under ASC 740, with current and deferred tax calculations and effective rate reconciliations.
Prepare returns and supporting workpapers across federal, state apportionment, and international regimes; forecast cash taxes by jurisdiction.
Produce technical computations and studies covering GILTI, FDII, BEAT, Pillar Two, section 163(j) limitation, and NOL/attribute analyses.
Create transfer pricing master file and local file documentation; review intercompany agreements and policy materials.
Support transaction tax work: diligence analyses, structuring memos, documented tax positions, and FIN 48 reserve considerations.
Convert your analyses into graded deliverables used for RLHF and evaluation-rating exercises to train and validate AI.
Requirements
You must have strong, demonstrable corporate income tax experience and be comfortable working from technical files and producing formal workpapers and analyses.
Minimum 4+ years in corporate income tax (in-house or Big 4).
Depth in at least one area: provision & compliance, international & transfer pricing, or M&A/transaction tax.
Practical experience with ASC 740 provisions including current/deferred calculations and rate reconciliations.
Familiarity with GILTI, FDII, BEAT, Pillar Two, and section 163(j) is required.
Comfort reading intercompany agreements, deal documents, and producing technical computations.
CPA, JD, LLM (Tax), EA, or CTA is a plus; tax equity and HLBV modeling experience is also helpful.
Workload, Pay & Location
This is a remote contractor opportunity available to applicants located in the United States. The project has a default commitment of about 15 hours per week but may vary by assignment.
Hourly pay range: $85–$100 per hour. Assignments are paid hourly and classified as contractor, part-time work.
Employment type: Contractor, Part-time.
Eligible locations: United States only.
Typical time commitment: Less than 20 hours/week (default ~15 hrs/week).
Pay: $85–$100 USD per hour.
Who Should Apply & How It Works
Apply if you are an experienced corporate tax professional who enjoys turning technical workpapers and deal documents into clear, defensible analyses. This role suits practitioners who want predictable, part-time contract work that directly improves AI systems.
Assignments consist of self-contained tax exercises built from mock files; you will submit graded deliverables that are used as training and evaluation data (RLHF and evaluation-rating). To apply, submit your OpenTrain profile showing relevant tax experience and availability—OpenTrain will manage the assignment and contracting.
You do not need prior AI-labeling experience—domain expertise and rigorous technical work are the core requirements.
Deliverables are evaluated for quality and used to train or assess AI models; accuracy, documentation, and clear computations are essential.
