About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the centralized platform where people build careers in AI training and data labeling. We help legal and technical freelancers find specialized projects, consolidate proof of work into one profile, and grow durable freelance careers in the fast-growing field of AI training.

For this role, OpenTrain is the hiring and contracting organization. You will work directly with OpenTrain to complete assignments, submit feedback, and build your portfolio of AI training work.

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building intelligent systems: people create, review, and rate examples so models learn to behave reliably. This role focuses on applying legal expertise to evaluate model outputs, improve contract-review accuracy, and shape how legal AI performs in real-world workflows.

Many contributors work remotely on a part-time, flexible basis. Projects like this let experienced practitioners directly influence model judgment and risk detection while earning competitive hourly pay.

The Role

OpenTrain is hiring a Contract Redlining Attorney to evaluate AI-generated contract responses, conduct simulated negotiations and redlines, and help design objective grading frameworks for legal AI tasks focused on technology transactions.

This is a part-time contractor engagement for U.S.-based attorneys. Work is remote and estimated at less than 20 hours per week.

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
  • Location requirement: United States (must hold active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction)
  • Workload: Less than 20 hours/week, flexible scheduling

What You’ll Do

Apply your transactional practice experience to judge and improve AI performance on contract tasks. Your feedback will be used to refine datasets, guidelines, and legal evaluation criteria.

  • Review AI-generated responses to contract scenarios and provide precise legal feedback.
  • Perform simulated contract negotiations and redlining exercises (MSAs, NDAs, DPAs, and related technology agreements).
  • Design objective evaluation frameworks and grading criteria for contract-review tasks.
  • Refine annotation guidelines, best practices, and training data to improve model risk detection and legal judgment.

Requirements

You must bring documented legal qualifications and practical technology-transaction experience; the role relies on real-world contract judgment and negotiation skills.

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 3 years of in-house experience in technology transactions.
  • Experience negotiating and redlining MSAs, NDAs, and DPAs.
  • Demonstrated ability to review, negotiate, and redline commercial contracts with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to evaluate AI-generated contract responses with precise legal judgment.
  • Familiarity with legal playbooks, contract review workflows, or legal AI tools is preferred.

Compensation & Schedule

Pay is hourly and competitive for expert-level work. Projects are billed per hour and the schedule is part-time and flexible to fit around other commitments.

  • Hourly pay: $90–$130 USD per hour (rate depends on task complexity and scope).
  • Expected time commitment: Less than 20 hours per week, remote.
  • Language: English required.

Who Should Apply & How It Works

Apply if you are an experienced transactional attorney who wants to influence how legal AI performs in real workflows. This is ideal for professionals with hands-on MSA/NDA/DPA experience who enjoy detailed contract analysis and shaping evaluation criteria.

Once engaged, you'll receive tasks through OpenTrain, review model outputs, submit redlines and written feedback, and help refine scoring rubrics. Building a robust OpenTrain profile helps you find future projects and demonstrate AI training experience across assignments.

  • Ideal applicants: in-house transactional attorneys, legal ops professionals, or counsel with technology contract experience.
  • How to apply: Create or update your OpenTrain profile and submit an application for this role; OpenTrain will manage contracting and task assignment.
