About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people starting and growing careers in AI training and data labeling. We help freelancers discover projects, build a unified AI training portfolio, and convert subject-matter expertise into durable freelance work.

OpenTrain is the hiring organization for this role. You will work as a contractor contributing your real-world legal expertise to structured materials that teach AI systems how to reason about contracts and negotiation.

About AI training and why it matters

AI training (also called data labeling or human feedback work) is the human side of building modern AI: people prepare, review, and explain examples so models learn accurate, reliable behaviors. This is accessible, remote, flexible work where your domain knowledge directly shapes how AI understands professional tasks.

In this project you'll convert practical contract negotiation experience into clear playbooks, annotated agreements, and evaluative feedback that help generative models learn real-world contract drafting and negotiation practices.

The role

We are hiring a Contract Negotiation Playbook Counsel to create, refine, and annotate contract negotiation playbooks and commercial agreements for AI training. This is a part-time contractor role for experienced in-house counsel or equivalent, working remotely from the US.

Schedule and pay: approximately 20 hours per week, for 1–3 months, with flexible scheduling. Compensation is $100–$200 per hour (pay rate within this range will depend on experience and project needs).

  • Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
  • Location: Remote (United States only)
  • Estimated time: ~20 hours/week for 1–3 months
  • Pay: $100–$200 per hour

What you'll do

  • Create, review, and refine contract negotiation playbooks drawn from diverse real-world scenarios and company requirements.
  • Draft, analyze, and annotate commercial agreements to ensure clarity, precision, and alignment with industry practices.
  • Provide expert commentary on negotiation strategies, contract management best practices, and risk mitigation.
  • Curate and supply non-confidential, eligible transaction materials for the project’s documentation objectives (do not submit confidential client materials).
  • Evaluate and optimize existing contract templates to improve efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Collaborate with the project team to make sure materials meet the project guidelines and AI-training requirements.
  • Deliver concise, high-quality written and verbal feedback to improve system outputs and model understanding.

Requirements

You must have real-world legal experience in contract negotiation and management; the role relies on domain expertise rather than prior AI-training experience.

  • Current or prior experience as General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, Assistant General Counsel, or equivalent corporate counsel role.
  • Proven expertise in commercial contract drafting, negotiation, and contract lifecycle management.
  • Experience developing or using contract negotiation playbooks tailored for corporate use.
  • Knowledge of industry-standard contract review practices and risk assessment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication with an eye for precision and clarity.
  • Ability to work independently and produce concise, actionable insights for AI training.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Must be based in and eligible to work from the United States.

Who should apply

This project is ideal for experienced in-house counsel or senior commercial lawyers who want flexible, part-time freelance work that directly shapes how AI systems handle contract negotiation tasks.

Prior experience with AI training is helpful but not required—what matters most is strong, demonstrable contract negotiation and playbook experience and the ability to translate that knowledge into clear, teachable artifacts.

How the project works

You will be engaged as a contractor through OpenTrain. Work is remote and asynchronous, with flexible hours to fit the estimated weekly time commitment. You will be asked to provide non-confidential sample materials, annotated documents, playbooks, and evaluative ratings or written feedback following project guidelines.

When preparing materials, do not submit confidential or privileged documents. OpenTrain will provide project-specific instructions and quality guidelines; you are expected to follow those and deliver clear annotations and commentary suitable for training generative models.

  • Data type: Document annotation and text-generation/evaluation tasks
  • Label types: Text generation and evaluation/rating
  • Deliverables include playbooks, annotated agreements, commentary, and template improvements
