About OpenTrain

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role and the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect skilled contributors with projects that help improve how modern AI systems understand technical information, while helping you build a durable professional portfolio.

About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts review, evaluate, and organize real-world examples so AI systems can produce more useful and reliable results. This role applies your CNC manufacturing knowledge to evaluating technical documentation used in an AI evaluation and manufacturing workflow research project.

  • Remote work that can fit around other commitments
  • Part-time, project-based contractor work
  • An opportunity to contribute specialized manufacturing expertise to cutting-edge AI development

The Role

OpenTrain AI is recruiting a CNC Manufacturing Documentation Reviewer to assess real-world CNC job packs. You will determine whether submitted documentation appears authentic, technically relevant, complete, and connected to the same part, drawing, customer part number, or production workflow.

This is a remote, part-time, project-based contractor role available worldwide. The expected time commitment is 20 or more hours per week, and the advertised rate is $40-$50 per hour. Work is conducted in English.

  • Role type: Part-time contractor
  • Work arrangement: Remote, worldwide
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week
  • Pay: $40-$50 per hour
  • Primary data type: Manufacturing documentation
  • Core task: Evaluation and rating

What You'll Review

You will evaluate whether the materials in a job pack are meaningful, technically connected, and representative of genuine CNC manufacturing work. Your review may cover production, programming, setup, inspection, and quality records.

  • Engineering drawings and ballooned drawings
  • Tolerances, material specifications, and manufacturing instructions
  • Setup sheets, tooling lists, process plans, route cards, and job cards
  • Control plans, inspection records, QC checklists, and CMM reports
  • CAD files, CAM outputs, toolpaths, G-code, and NC files
  • Setup instructions, material certificates, and mill test reports

What You'll Do

You will assess whether a job pack represents real CNC manufacturing work rather than generic, artificial, AI-generated, or publicly available material. You will compare artifacts to determine whether they belong to the same part or production workflow and communicate a concise quality recommendation.

You will also identify documentation issues and flag confidential or sensitive information that may require redaction.

  • Check whether documentation is authentic, complete, and technically relevant
  • Assess whether drawings, files, instructions, and records are connected to the same job
  • Evaluate CAD/CAM materials, toolpaths, G-code, and NC files for technical meaning and consistency
  • Identify missing, weak, inconsistent, or low-value artifacts
  • Flag confidential or sensitive information for redaction
  • Provide concise written quality recommendations

Required Skills and Experience

You should have direct experience in CNC manufacturing, CNC programming, machining, or manufacturing quality control, with practical knowledge of CNC milling and/or CNC turning. The project is listed at an entry level, but hands-on CNC and documentation experience is required to make sound technical judgments.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to explain technical quality findings clearly in written English are essential.

  • Hands-on CNC milling and/or CNC turning experience
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, machining tolerances, and manufacturing documentation
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM workflows, G-code, NC files, toolpaths, setup sheets, process routes, and tooling lists
  • Ability to assess whether manufacturing artifacts are complete, authentic, technically connected, and suitable for review
  • Ability to communicate technical quality findings clearly in written English
  • Strong attention to detail
