Why AI training matters — and why legal review is essential

AI training is the human side of building intelligent systems: models learn from examples prepared and reviewed by people. In legal applications, experienced reviewers shape how AI systems understand civil procedure, form documents, and give practical, reliable guidance.

As a reviewer on OpenTrain you directly influence the safety, accuracy, and usefulness of AI-driven legal guidance used by people seeking help with housing, family, consumer debt, and bankruptcy matters.

The role

You will evaluate AI-generated civil legal guidance for procedural accuracy, documentation quality, and practical usefulness. This is hands-on expert review work: identify filing errors, spot missing steps, and provide clear, structured written feedback that improves model outputs.

This is a US-only, remote contractor role, part-time (20+ hours/week) paid hourly at $70/hr. Work focuses on text-based evaluation and text-generation tasks using established review guidelines.

What you'll do

  • Review AI-generated legal guidance for civil legal workflows and common scenarios
  • Evaluate procedural correctness, filing steps, and documentation quality
  • Assess scenarios in housing, family, consumer debt, and bankruptcy
  • Identify filing errors, omissions, and jurisdictional issues
  • Provide structured written feedback to improve legal guidance quality and usability

Requirements

  • Significant experience as a senior paralegal or accredited representative (required)
  • Strong knowledge of civil legal procedures, especially filing and documentation steps
  • Experience supporting housing, family, consumer debt, or bankruptcy matters
  • Excellent written communication and the ability to produce clear, structured feedback
  • English fluency and eligibility to work remotely from the United States

Preferred qualifications

  • Legal aid, nonprofit legal services, or experience supporting underserved populations
  • Familiarity with jurisdiction-specific filing procedures and local court forms
  • Experience mentoring or training legal support staff

How the work is structured & compensation

Employment type: Contractor, part-time. Minimum expected time commitment: 20+ hours/week. This role is remote but limited to contributors located in the United States.

Pay: Hourly at $70. Tasks are text-focused and include evaluation ratings and writing or editing generated guidance; label types: EVALUATION_RATING and TEXT_GENERATION.

Who should apply

Experienced civil paralegals, accredited representatives, and legal aid professionals who want flexible, remote work and to help shape how AI gives legal guidance should apply.

This role is a good fit if you enjoy careful procedural review, clear written feedback, and mentoring model outputs to be accurate and practically useful for real-world users.
