The role

As a Pro Bono Civil Legal AI Reviewer, you will evaluate AI-generated legal analyses on civil law topics and produce structured ratings and written critiques to improve model performance. Your feedback will help ensure models give accurate, ethically framed, and practical guidance in matters affecting low-income and underserved people.

• Position: Contract, part-time reviewer working for OpenTrain AI.
• Focus areas: housing, family, consumer, foreclosure, and debt scenarios.
• Labeling work: text-based ratings and written evaluations (EVALUATION_RATING, TEXT_GENERATION).

What you'll do day to day

You will read AI-generated legal answers and assess their legal reasoning, procedural accuracy, and access-to-justice considerations. Deliver clear, structured written evaluations that pinpoint inaccuracies and suggest improvements.

• Assess legal reasoning and citations for correctness and relevance.
• Identify factual, procedural, or ethical errors and explain why they matter.
• Provide structured written feedback and ratings to guide model improvement.
• Work across sample scenarios in housing, family, consumer, foreclosure, and debt law.

Requirements

All required qualifications below are essential for this role.

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active U.S. bar admission.
• Strong civil practice experience, with significant exposure to housing, family, consumer, foreclosure, or debt matters.
• Experience with pro bono, clinics, or volunteer attorney initiatives preferred and highly relevant.
• Excellent legal writing, analytical judgment, and ability to produce concise, structured feedback.
• Comfort reading and evaluating AI-generated legal content and familiarity with legal technology or AI.

How it works — schedule, pay, and logistics

This is a remote contractor role through OpenTrain AI. You will be paid by the hour and report work through the OpenTrain platform. OpenTrain connects you to tasks, tracks assignments, and centralizes your work history.

• Time commitment: 20+ hours per week.
• Compensation: USD 170 per hour (pay-per-hour contractor).
