About OpenTrain

OpenTrain is the #1 platform for finding and building careers in AI training and data labeling. We connect experienced professionals with high-value, remote contracting opportunities to shape how AI systems understand and apply domain expertise.

OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role. We offer flexible, remote projects that let legal experts contribute real-world judgment to improve model behavior while building a durable AI training portfolio.

Why AI training matters for legal work

AI training is the human side of building intelligent systems: legal models learn from examples and expert review. Your legal analysis helps models apply rules correctly, spot risks, and produce clear, usable guidance for non-lawyer users.

  • Contribute to cutting-edge AI while working remotely and flexibly.
  • Work that values precise reasoning, drafting skill, and domain judgment.

The role — what this job is

As a Legal AI Response Reviewer you will evaluate AI-generated legal answers and create model legal content (answers, memos, checklists, policies) that demonstrate correct reasoning, authority use, and clear drafting.

This is hourly contractor work (part-time/flexible) for skilled attorneys who want to apply their practice experience to improving legal AI outputs.

  • Type: Contractor, part-time.
  • Time: 20+ hours per week.
  • Data type: TEXT — tasks include evaluation ratings, text generation, and question answering.

What you'll do day to day

  • Review and compare AI-generated legal responses for correctness, reasoning quality, and adherence to prompts.
  • Identify weaknesses in issue-spotting, rule application, procedural steps, and risk handling.
  • Fact-check legal concepts and citations when required (statutes, regulations, cases).
  • Write model answers, explanations, checklists, policies, and memos that show structured legal analysis and appropriate tone.
  • Evaluate outputs for misleading certainty, confidentiality risk, bias, and internal consistency.

Requirements — must-haves

  • JD/LLB or equivalent law degree.
  • Active bar membership or eligibility in at least one jurisdiction.
  • At least 5 years of professional legal practice.
  • Strong issue-spotting and structured legal analysis skills.
  • Experience in one or more practice areas such as contracts, employment, privacy, corporate, litigation, IP, real estate, or compliance.
  • Strong research skills with primary authority (statutes, regulations, cases) and citation checking.
  • Excellent drafting and editing skills with attention to precision and tone.
  • Minimum C1 English proficiency.

Preferred experience

Prior experience with AI data training, legal QA, editorial review, or knowledge management is strongly preferred but not strictly required.

  • Comfort evaluating answers for consumer versus business contexts.
  • Familiarity with confidentiality concerns in remote legal workflows.
  • Experience simplifying complex legal issues for non-legal audiences.

Logistics and how to apply

Pay: USD $40–$120 per hour as an hourly contractor. Hours are flexible but we expect 20+ hours/week. Work will be performed remotely.

OpenTrain accepts applicants located in the following countries (as listed in the role): [SM, SE, PT, NO, NL, MT, MC, LU, LI, IT, IS, IE, GR, GB, FR, FI, ES, DK, CH, BE, AT, VN, TL, TH, SG, PK, PH, NP, MY, LK, KH, ID, BT, BD, IN, BR, DE, US].

  • Label types: EVALUATION_RATING, TEXT_GENERATION, QUESTION_ANSWERING.
  • If you meet the requirements and want to shape how legal AI systems reason and communicate, apply through your OpenTrain account and include examples of relevant legal writing or knowledge-management work.
