About OpenTrain
OpenTrain is the centralized, open platform where AI training and data-labeling freelancers find work, consolidate opportunities across platforms, and build a unified AI training portfolio they control. We make specialized AI training work easier to track, apply for, and grow into a durable freelance career.
About this role
OpenTrain is recruiting a Civil Engineering AI Evaluation Expert to create evaluation tasks for AI systems operating in large-scale infrastructure and construction contexts. You will translate senior civil engineering judgment into realistic scenarios, reference outputs, engineering calculations, technical narratives, and assessment rubrics across design, permitting, regulatory, and construction workflows. The work may follow US standards including ASCE, ACI, AISC, and AASHTO, or international Eurocodes and ISO standards.
What you will do
You will construct scenarios covering large-scale infrastructure design, permitting and regulatory review, construction management, and public works. You will build tasks across structural design, transportation and highway engineering, water resources, environmental engineering, geotechnical engineering, and construction project management. You will develop scenarios involving tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, STAAD.Pro, ETABS, HEC-RAS, and enterprise project management platforms.
You will apply structural load analysis, geotechnical site assessment, and hydrology or hydraulic modeling methods to realistic engineering problems. You will produce reference design plans, engineering calculations, and stakeholder or regulatory-facing technical narratives. You will also write rubrics that distinguish authentic senior engineering judgment from generic textbook or coursework-level responses.
Required skills
You should have at least five years of experience as a civil engineer or engineering lead and direct ownership of large-scale infrastructure design, permitting, or construction project delivery. Strong knowledge of civil engineering tools, methodologies, regulatory approvals, environmental review, and public agency oversight is required. The ability to create clear technical documentation and evaluation rubrics is important.
Helpful background
A recognized professional engineering credential such as a US PE, CEng, EUR ING, or P.Eng is strongly preferred. Experience authoring engineering training materials, rubrics, or design documentation is valuable.
