The Role

As a Civil Engineering AI Evaluation Specialist you will review, challenge, and refine AI-generated civil engineering responses for technical accuracy, completeness, clarity, and sound engineering judgment.

You will assess model outputs that include realistic scenarios, calculations, design questions, and code-informed reasoning, and deliver structured feedback that improves model explanations of assumptions, limitations, calculations, and professional judgment.

What You'll Do

Your day-to-day work will focus on evaluating and annotating text outputs across civil engineering domains, helping set standards for technical communication and safety-aware recommendations.

• Evaluate AI-generated civil engineering responses for technical accuracy, logical soundness, completeness, and clarity.
• Challenge models with realistic engineering scenarios, calculations, design questions, and reasoning tasks.
• Review and refine AI-generated prompts, explanations, and step-by-step solutions.
• Provide structured feedback on factual errors, flawed assumptions, missing constraints, unsafe recommendations, and incomplete reasoning.
• Assess model performance across structural, geotechnical, transportation, water resources, and construction topics.
• Help shape communication standards for technical civil engineering content and ensure outputs reflect safety and professional standards.

Requirements

You must have strong, practical civil engineering experience and the judgment to evaluate calculations and professional recommendations.

• Minimum 4+ years of professional civil engineering experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline required.
• Experience in infrastructure design, structural analysis, geotechnical engineering, transportation, water resources, environmental engineering, or construction management.
• Strong command of statics, mechanics of materials, soil mechanics, hydraulics, materials behavior, load paths, and construction methods.
• Ability to evaluate technical calculations, assumptions, and code-informed reasoning, and to judge safety and constraints.
• Master's, PhD, PE licensure, or equivalent advanced credentials are strongly preferred.
• Prior experience with AI data training, annotation, or evaluating AI-generated technical content is a strong plus.
• English fluency required; candidates must be located in one of the approved countries listed in the posting.

Schedule, Compensation, and Scope

This is a remote contractor engagement for a short-term project estimated at 20+ hours per week. OpenTrain manages contracting and payments.

Pay is hourly, with a published range of USD 45–100 per hour.
