The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Civil Engineering AI Training Task Author for a high-impact customer project. You will apply civil engineering expertise to design evaluation tasks, curate technical documents, develop complex problems, and create rubrics for large language model assessment.

The work covers structural design, transportation, water systems, and site development. Your task designs will help assess whether AI-generated solutions are technically correct and satisfy relevant regulatory and geometric constraints.

What You’ll Do

You will create realistic, challenging evaluation materials that reflect the complexity of professional civil engineering work. The role combines technical problem development, document curation, solution validation, and assessment design.

• Design authentic civil engineering evaluation tasks across structural design, transportation, water systems, and site development.
• Source, generate, and curate engineering drawings, geotechnical reports, specification sheets, cost estimates, and regulatory code references.
• Develop challenging technical problems involving nuanced constraint reasoning and code compliance.
• Determine the accurate engineering solution for each task and verify regulatory and geometric constraints.
• Craft comprehensive, multi-item rubrics for grading technical correctness and code adherence in AI-generated solutions.
• Create and validate high-volume realistic data files, including CSVs, PDFs, and spreadsheets.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to refine task clarity, realism, and evaluative standards.

Requirements

This opportunity is categorized as entry level in the project information, while the role itself requires substantial professional experience. Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate civil engineering judgment, technical documentation ability, and experience interpreting requirements and codes.

• At least 5 years of professional experience contributing to civil engineering projects across diverse domains.
• Professional Engineer license or active pursuit of licensure strongly preferred.
• Mastery of technical documentation, including code-compliance materials and design specifications.
• Experience sourcing and interpreting regulatory codes and integrating them into technical solutions.
• Proficiency generating or reviewing complex technical artifacts such as drawings, reports, and evaluation data sets.
• Strong written communication skills for authoring clear, comprehensive evaluation materials.
• Expertise in technical documentation, code compliance, and constraint reasoning.
