The Role
As a Civil Engineering AI Training Task Author, you will apply professional civil engineering knowledge to create evaluation materials for large language model assessment. Your work will focus on civil engineering reasoning, technical accuracy, realistic constraints, and code compliance.
This is a part-time contractor opportunity requiring 20+ hours per week. The listed pay range is $50–$100 per hour, based on experience and project requirements.
Work arrangement: Remote and worldwide
Employment type: Contractor, part time
Schedule: 20+ hours per week
Pay: $50–$100 per hour
Primary language: English
What You'll Do
You will design realistic, challenging civil engineering tasks and establish the standards used to evaluate AI-generated solutions. The work spans multiple civil engineering areas and includes technical documentation, data files, and iterative collaboration.
Design evaluation tasks covering structural design, transportation, water systems, and site development.
Source, generate, and curate technical documents such as engineering drawings, geotechnical reports, specification sheets, cost estimates, and regulatory code references.
Determine accurate engineering solutions while ensuring regulatory and geometric constraints are satisfied.
Create comprehensive, multi-item rubrics for grading technical correctness and code adherence.
Create and validate realistic, high-volume data files, including CSVs, PDFs, and spreadsheets.
Collaborate with stakeholders to refine task clarity, realism, and evaluation standards.
Required Qualifications
This role requires substantial professional civil engineering experience and the ability to work confidently with technical documentation, regulatory requirements, and complex engineering constraints. The opportunity is listed at an entry-level classification, but the role requirements call for at least five years of professional civil engineering experience.
At least five years of professional experience contributing to civil engineering projects across diverse domains.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of licensure is strongly preferred.
Mastery of technical documentation, including code-compliance materials and design specifications.
Experience sourcing and interpreting regulatory codes and integrating them into technical solutions.
Proficiency generating or reviewing complex technical artifacts, including drawings, reports, and data sets.
Strong written communication skills for authoring clear and comprehensive evaluation materials.
Who Should Apply
This opportunity is suited to civil engineering professionals who enjoy breaking down complex technical problems, defining what a correct solution requires, and communicating engineering standards clearly. Your expertise will help shape how AI systems handle civil engineering reasoning and compliance questions.
Civil engineers with experience across multiple project domains
