The Role

We are hiring a Mandarin Creative Writer on a remote contract basis to generate and refine dialogue and responses used to train conversational AI models.

Your writing will improve the AI’s naturalness, cultural relevancy, and ability to handle varied prompts in Mandarin, including regional nuance and tone.

• Employment type: Contractor, Part-time
• Work location: Remote, worldwide
• Pay: USD $15 per hour (pay-per-hour)
• Typical time expectation: flexible hours; minimum 10 hours/week and candidates who can commit 20+ hours/week are preferred

What You’ll Do

Create original, natural dialogue and prompt responses in Mandarin based on provided instructions and scenarios.

Edit and refine AI-generated text to improve accuracy, tone, clarity, and cultural authenticity.

• Write high-quality prompt responses, short-form dialogue, and conversational turns in Mandarin.
• Perform text generation, summarization, and question-answering tasks as directed.
• Apply regional and cultural knowledge to make responses relatable and authentic.
• Proofread and edit content to ensure grammatical correctness and stylistic consistency.

Requirements

Candidates should have strong written Mandarin Chinese skills and a creative writing background. Basic English is required to follow instructions and communicate with the team.

We preserve the job’s stated preferences and requirements exactly: prior experience writing on data-labeling/AI-training platforms and a portfolio are highly preferred.

• Mandarin Chinese: native-level or professional writing proficiency required
• English: basic understanding to follow guidance and interview instructions
• Experience: 5+ years of creative or content writing in Mandarin preferred (not strictly required)
• Platform experience: prior writing tasks on data-labeling platforms (OpenTrain, Appen, etc.) is highly preferred
• Editing: strong proofreading and editing skills
• Familiarity with AI chat tools (e.g., ChatGPT) is an advantage but not required

Interview & Short Test

The interview includes questions about your writing experience, portfolio, and platform work. At the end of the interview you will complete a short test: prompts will be provided in English and Mandarin, and you must respond in Mandarin.

Your test responses are an important part of the evaluation and will influence your qualification score.

• Interview will ask how many years/months you have experience writing responses to prompts on data-labeling platforms.
• You may be asked to provide a link to a writing portfolio or describe published works if links are unavailable.
• Sample test questions (respond in Mandarin):
• QUESTION 1 (Describe a Character): 请使用创造性语言简要描述一个独特而生动的角色。您的描述应至少包含两个显著特征或特性。
