About AI Safety Evaluation

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts write prompts, review model responses, and provide structured feedback so AI systems become more accurate, useful, and responsible.

This role focuses on scientific AI safety evaluation, where careful human judgment helps assess how models handle specialized technical subjects and sensitive dual-use information.

The Role

OpenTrain is recruiting a Chinese Bilingual STEM AI Safety Evaluator to support AI training work involving scientific prompts and AI-generated responses. You will apply your scientific knowledge and Chinese-language expertise to evaluate specialized content for accuracy, helpfulness, and safe handling.

Prior AI or machine learning experience is not required. Workflow guidance is provided, while your scientific background supports accurate and responsible evaluations.

  • Part-time contractor role with fewer than 20 hours per week
  • Worldwide opportunity
  • Pay of $68 to $72 per hour
  • Text-based work involving prompts, responses, evaluations, and classifications

What You'll Do

You will create and assess technical content in Chinese while following detailed evaluation guidelines. Your reviews will help identify whether model responses are scientifically sound, useful, and appropriately cautious when discussing sensitive topics.

  • Write expert-level prompts in Chinese across specialized scientific topics
  • Evaluate model responses for scientific accuracy and helpfulness
  • Assess whether responses handle sensitive or dual-use content appropriately
  • Classify prompts and conversations using structured guidelines
  • Explain quality judgments clearly and consistently
  • Review repeated tasks carefully while maintaining consistent standards

Required Qualifications

This is an entry-level AI training opportunity for candidates with advanced scientific expertise. You must have an ongoing or completed PhD in chemistry, biology, or a closely related field, with depth in a relevant scientific subfield.

Native or near-native Chinese fluency and business-level written English are required. You should also be comfortable working independently, following detailed instructions, and making careful judgments about scientific and safety-related content.

  • PhD-level knowledge of chemistry, biology, or a closely related scientific field
  • Ability to write precise expert prompts in Chinese within a specialized STEM area
  • Ability to evaluate scientific accuracy, helpfulness, and safe handling of dual-use content
  • Native or near-native Chinese fluency with business-level written English
  • Familiarity with modern laboratory or computational techniques
  • Sound judgment concerning chemical safety, biosafety, biosecurity, or hazardous-materials information
  • Strong written communication and close attention to detail
  • Ability to follow detailed guidelines independently

Relevant Scientific Experience

Additional experience reviewing, grading, or red-teaming technical content is helpful. Relevant expertise may come from a range of scientific disciplines involving chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or other dual-use topics.

  • Organic or inorganic chemistry
  • Molecular biology, microbiology, virology, or genetics
  • Radiochemistry, nuclear chemistry, or radiation physics
  • Energetic materials and related hazardous-materials knowledge
  • Technical content review, grading, or red-teaming

Why Build an AI Training Career

AI training is a fast-growing field where specialists can directly influence how modern AI systems behave. Scientific experts and bilingual reviewers bring valuable judgment that models cannot reliably provide on their own.

Many AI training projects are remote and flexible, allowing contributors to choose work that fits their schedule while building experience in an expanding technology industry.

  • Apply specialized scientific knowledge to cutting-edge AI development
  • Work remotely with flexible part-time hours
  • Build experience in evaluation, prompt writing, and model safety review
  • Develop a portfolio of AI training work through OpenTrain
