OpenTrain is the #1 platform for people building careers in AI training and data labeling. We help contributors discover projects, consolidate experience, and grow a durable freelance career doing the human work that teaches AI.
OpenTrain AI is the hiring and contracting organization for this role. We connect subject-matter experts with high-impact evaluation work that improves model behavior.
Why AI training matters
AI training (data labeling and human evaluation) is the human side of modern AI—people annotate, evaluate, and correct model outputs so systems learn to reason, explain, and solve real problems. This work is remote, flexible, and directly shapes how state-of-the-art models behave.
Work is 100% remote and often flexible around other commitments.
Many projects require domain knowledge rather than prior AI-industry experience.
Contributors directly improve model accuracy, safety, and usefulness.
The role: Chemistry AI Training Reviewer
You will review AI-generated chemistry answers and model reasoning, identify calculation and conceptual errors, fact-check chemical information, and write clear corrections and model solutions. Your evaluations help improve model accuracy, fluency, and contextual relevance in chemistry-focused prompts.
This is a contractor, part-time role with a minimum expected commitment of 20+ hours per week. OpenTrain AI will contract and manage the work.
What you'll do
Review chemistry answers for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to the prompt.
Identify errors in calculations, methodology, and conceptual understanding (stoichiometry, equilibrium, etc.).
Write strong chemical explanations and model solutions to correct mistakes.
Rate and compare multiple AI responses for correctness and reasoning quality.
Help improve overall model accuracy, fluency, and contextual relevance through detailed feedback.
Requirements
MS or PhD in Chemistry or a closely related field (required).
Deep knowledge of chemical reactions, stoichiometry, organic mechanisms, analytical methods, and physical or quantum chemistry.
Ability to spot calculation, methodology, and conceptual errors in responses.
Excellent written English to explain corrections and write model solutions clearly.
Experience evaluating AI-generated scientific or technical answers and familiarity with RLHF/model evaluation is highly desirable.
Logistics: pay, hours, language, and location
Compensation is $70 USD per hour (PAY_PER_HOUR). This role expects 20+ hours per week and is a contract, part-time engagement.
Language: English (required). Work is remote but restricted to the following countries: BD, BT, BR, KH, DE, IN, ID, MY, NP, PK, SG, LK, TH, PH, US, TL, VN.
Data type: TEXT — label types include RLHF, EVALUATION_RATING, and TEXT_GENERATION.
Employment types: CONTRACTOR, PART_TIME.
Labeling software: provided by OpenTrain AI (details shared after onboarding).
Who should apply
Apply if you are an active chemistry researcher, educator, or practitioner with graduate-level training and strong written communication skills. This role suits people who enjoy scrutinizing solutions, explaining corrections clearly, and improving AI reasoning in technical domains.
Prior experience in data labeling, RLHF, or model evaluation is a plus but not strictly required if you meet the chemistry and communication requirements.
