The CFD Engineer Role
OpenTrain AI is seeking expert CFD Engineers to evaluate AI-generated technical responses and contribute domain expertise in computational fluid dynamics and engineering simulation. You will apply practical engineering judgment to simulation scenarios and theoretical fluid-dynamics questions.
This contractor role involves advanced CFD challenges across mesh generation, turbulence modeling, multiphase flow, heat transfer, solver configuration, and simulation validation.

What You'll Do
You will complete text labeling, evaluation and rating, text generation, question answering, and RLHF tasks focused on computational fluid dynamics. Your work will help refine the reasoning capabilities of AI systems used for technical and engineering problems.
Clear documentation and communication are essential. You will provide written and verbal explanations that make technical feedback useful for improving AI learning and performance.
Evaluate AI-generated technical responses for correctness, accuracy, and engineering integrity
Analyze mesh independence, turbulence model selection, boundary-condition specification, and convergence
Apply best practices to troubleshoot CFD simulations and theoretical fluid-dynamics questions
Validate fluid-flow, heat-transfer, and multiphysics problems using experimental or analytical comparisons
Document feedback and explain technical judgments clearly
Collaborate remotely with technical experts and project participants
Required Expertise and Qualifications
You should have a bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field focused on fluid dynamics or thermofluids. Equivalent practical experience of at least 3 years in CFD is also accepted.
At least 3 years of hands-on experience conducting and validating CFD simulations is required. Relevant experience may include mesh generation, solver setup, turbulence modeling, multiphase or heat-transfer analysis, and post-processing.
Deep understanding of the Navier-Stokes equations
Knowledge of RANS, LES, and DES turbulence modeling
Strong understanding of meshing strategies and boundary-condition specification
Experience with CFD verification and validation practices
Ability to cross-reference simulations with experimental or analytical data
Familiarity with ASME V&V 20, AIAA CFD verification and validation, or ITTC procedures
Fluent English proficiency with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience with ANSYS Fluent, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM, COMSOL, or Converge is a strong plus
