About AI Safety Review Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Specialists review examples, evaluate model responses, and provide feedback that helps AI systems become more accurate, useful, and safe.

As a CBRN AI Safety Review Specialist, you will apply professional knowledge to sensitive chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear topics. Your judgment will help models distinguish responsible high-level safety information from misleading, unsafe, or misuse-enabling guidance.

  • Help shape how cutting-edge AI systems handle sensitive information
  • Apply expert review to model accuracy, safety, and policy alignment
  • Work remotely with flexible contractor scheduling

The Role

OpenTrain AI is seeking a CBRN AI Safety Review Specialist for hourly remote contract work. You will review and evaluate AI-generated content related to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear safety.

The opportunity is listed at entry level, while the role requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience and at least three years of relevant professional experience. Strong professional English proficiency at a minimum C1 level is required.

  • Subject matter: CBRN AI safety review
  • Data type: Text
  • Work type: Evaluation, rating, RLHF, and text generation
  • Engagement: Part-time contractor
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours per week
  • Language: English at C1 level or higher

What You'll Do

You will assess whether AI-generated responses are technically accurate, appropriately cautious, and aligned with public-safety principles. Reviews will cover both the quality of the information and the risk that a response could enable unsafe or harmful misuse.

You will use review rubrics to explain decisions clearly, create safe reference examples, and escalate ambiguous or high-risk cases for further consideration.

  • Review and rank AI-generated responses for technical accuracy and safety
  • Evaluate terminology, hazard classification, risk framing, and policy alignment
  • Assess exposure pathways, protective concepts, and emergency preparedness information
  • Review public-safety communication for clarity and appropriate caution
  • Identify misleading, overconfident, unsafe, or operationally enabling claims
  • Distinguish useful high-level safety information from content requiring refusal or redirection
  • Provide clear written feedback and explain safety, accuracy, completeness, and policy decisions
  • Apply technical review rubrics and escalate ambiguous or high-risk cases

Required Qualifications

Applicants should have a bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field. Relevant backgrounds include chemistry, biology, public health, toxicology, nuclear or radiation science, emergency management, environmental health and safety, biosecurity, and security studies.

At least three years of relevant professional experience is required. Experience may include CBRN safety, hazardous materials, biosafety, radiation safety, emergency preparedness, public health, security analysis, technical review, or a related area.

  • Knowledge of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazard categories
  • Understanding of exposure pathways and protective concepts
  • Knowledge of emergency communication and public-safety principles
  • Strong professional English proficiency at C1 level or higher
  • Ability to identify unsafe, misleading, overconfident, or misuse-enabling guidance
  • Ability to explain technical and safety judgments clearly
  • Experience with AI safety, technical quality assurance, policy review, risk assessment, scientific review, or rubric-based evaluation is preferred

Who Should Apply

This opportunity may suit professionals who can combine CBRN subject-matter knowledge with careful written analysis. You should be comfortable reviewing sensitive material, recognizing safety risks, and making consistent decisions against defined evaluation criteria.

The role is especially relevant to candidates with experience in hazardous materials, biosafety, radiation safety, emergency preparedness, public health, security analysis, or technical and scientific review.

  • CBRN safety and hazard assessment professionals
  • Chemistry, biology, toxicology, or public-health specialists
  • Radiation, nuclear safety, or emergency-management professionals
  • Biosecurity and security-analysis specialists
  • Technical reviewers experienced in risk, policy, or scientific evaluation
