As the hiring organization for this role, OpenTrain manages onboarding, guidelines, and contractor relationships while you focus on high-quality language work that directly improves AI systems.

Why AI training matters

AI models learn from examples prepared and reviewed by people. Tasks like transcription, tagging, and annotation shape how systems understand language, dialect, and cultural nuance.

This work is remote-friendly, accessible to entry-level contributors with strong language skills, and offers flexible hours so you can fit it around other commitments.

The role

We are recruiting a Canadian French Transcription and Annotation Specialist to review machine-generated transcripts of audio, correct errors, add metadata and entity annotations, and document edits following project standards.

This is a contract, part-time position (20+ hours per week) suitable for entry-level contributors who are fluent in Canadian French and comfortable working independently under confidentiality and quality guidelines.

  • Data type: audio (speech) with transcription and entity NER/ classification tasks.
  • Employment: contractor, part-time.
  • Experience level: entry level; training/guidelines provided.

What you'll do

Your day-to-day work will focus on improving transcript quality and enriching audio data with structured annotations that help language models learn Canadian French accurately.

  • Review and correct machine-generated French-language transcripts for accuracy and linguistic integrity.
  • Add and refine metadata tags and entity annotations for speech and text files.
  • Identify and resolve transcription errors and inconsistencies through careful editing.
  • Document changes and annotation decisions according to project standards.
  • Provide constructive feedback on language nuances, regional vocabulary, and workflow quality.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the core language and quality standards below. We will evaluate sample work during onboarding to confirm fit for the project.

  • Fluent Canadian French (fr) with excellent grammar, regional vocabulary, and spelling accuracy.
  • Experience correcting machine-generated transcripts and strong transcription/editing skills.
  • Experience adding metadata tags and detailed annotations (entity/NER classification preferred).
  • Careful attention to detail and a commitment to quality control and documentation.
  • Comfortable working independently, maintaining confidentiality, and following project guidelines.
  • Familiarity with transcription tools or AI language workflows is a plus but not required.

Compensation & schedule

Pay is hourly, USD $15–25 per hour depending on qualification and performance. The role expects 20+ hours per week and is open to contributors worldwide.

As a contractor you set your schedule within project deadlines. Specific shift times or deadlines will be provided during onboarding and per task instructions.

  • Rate: USD $15–25 / hour (pay-per-hour).
  • Time requirement: 20+ hours/week.
  • Open worldwide; work remotely.

How it works and how to apply

If you meet the requirements, apply through OpenTrain to start the onboarding process. You will receive project guidelines, sample tasks for evaluation, and access to the annotation platform used for this project.

Successful applicants will follow confidentiality and quality procedures, complete a brief qualification test, and begin work as a contractor with ongoing feedback and quality reviews.

  • Apply on OpenTrain to start onboarding and a short qualification test.
  • Complete initial sample tasks to demonstrate transcription and annotation accuracy.
  • Begin contract work and log hours according to project instructions.
